Just to satisfy my curiosity, what is the fewest number of targets that someone made it to the 27 yard line?
Not using penalty yardage and such, just the march from the 20 to the 27.

Don't know who did it with the least number of targets but you could do it with 300 targets. If you won 2 H'cap events with 1500+ shooters each you'd get 2.5 yard per event (5yds) and if you did the same in a 500-1500 shooters event you'd get 2 yards for a total of 7 yds.

Eric---Nice math. I was racking my small mind to figure what you just did. I'll never need to worry about that in a realistic situation though. :')---Matt

Mixer, it could be won with 100 targets. New to ATA, shoot penalty from the 25 and win with the amount of shooters you mention. I could be wrong.

I made the 27 in 13 months, but I have no idea how many shells I fired.

Scott, I made it with 4300 or 4500 targets. I'm sure lots of shooters made it in
less targets. I was just a part time shooter who went along to accompany my dad and I shot whenever I could. - Good shooting at Pocatello too. Hope to see you and maybe shoot with you at the next shoot.

FlaLagarto: That's good, I read somewhere that of all the people that have ever shot competitive trap, 85% never make the back line.

Well i've been shooting registered trap now since the start of the 2006 season. I started shooting caps 2 years ago. I have yet to get a punch. Oh i've been close on several oocasions. I figure at the pace i'm on, i may set the record for the LONGEST time and MOST shots fired to the 27. Hell at this pace the 27 may rot before i get there. Be my luck they'll move the back fence back farther just as i'm about to get to the 27. You gotta love this game. LOL--Matt

    Loganmo,

In your example you're correct except the question was starting from the 20yd line not the 25.

Never give up. Stuck on the 26 for a long time. Made it to the 27 with a 97 at the Spring Grand in 2005 at age 66.

I was stuck at the 24.5 for several years and then went to the 27 in two consecutive weekends with a two 98's and a 97.

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? The wise old owl says three. Some take a bit longer.

Most of the 27 yard guys I know got there in 4 seasons or there about with around 2K HC targets per season. It seems like the guys that got there in a slow steady progression are more comfortable with shooting from the 27 than the guys that happened to get there after one or two really good seasons. Making it to the 27 is worthy goal but staying there competitively is an even greater ambition.

It took me about 2800 Targets to reach the 27. The strange thing for me is that I find it much more difficult to keep focused and shoot a good 16yd score than handicap. At big shoots my scores for singles usually match my handicap. I guess someday I will learn to be patient and shoot 16's

5 years, 6 months and 15,800 targets. Started from the 20 yard line.

Spent 3 very cold years @ the 25 yard line. (no punches, always one shooter short of getting a punch or 1 bird out of the money).

    Score early, score often.
