A food ban, what else? If you look in the archives at early pictures of Native Americans, the pilgrims did not come here and find 'stick figures' that's for sure. 'Fat American's' (i.e. Ugly Americans) have been so named since when?
In the sixties it was explained that the world was jealous of our robust ability to produce and market food. And that our over indulgences would catch up to us.

Also read that with the great influx of genetically smaller people (mexicans, orientals, middle eastern, south american) to the US, the height and weight charts were completely inaccurate and skewed toward small framed people. That just means that Americans will have to pay more for being genetically bigger when they calculate insurance. Americans no longer have a color bigotry problem, we have a size bigotry problem.

Also in the manufacture of clothing, the 'eugenic crowd' believes that time and money can be saved if people were one size. Then all garments could easily be manufactured without having to change patterns etc. This would be utopia for manufacturers. Was an 1980's topic of discussion.

May work in China but not where there is geneological diversity.

All gluttons are convinced they have a genetic problem, or "gland" problem, and conveniently ignore the basic physiologic principle of calories in vs. calories out.

The obese are now being issued handicap tags so they can park close to the grocery store, fast food joints and all-you-can-eat hog troughs. We wouldn't want them burning up any calories by walking a few more steps, would we?

Six months in prison will cause them to lose weight, that's why so many gang bangers pants are always falling down.

Time for gov't mandated fat farms if you're on medicaid & food stamps.

Obesity problems should be handled as health issues and a private matter to be discussed with a physician. Why does gov. have to be involved? If they, government are going to be involved why don't they provide mega research dollars for the mega problem?

There are some very healthy large people with good cholesterol, low blood pressure, no diabetes etc. Why should they have to pay more because they are large?

Also, animals in the wild are seldom, if ever obese. If you research archive photos of early Native Americans to see what natural man and woman looks like you will be surprised.

After a 27 year layoff from shooting, multiple surgeries to repair 'battle damage' from JFK's war, quitting smoking, and general malaise I was up to 260+ lbs in Feb. of this year. Obese? Nah. Pig fat. I joined a gun club and went shooting. Trap, of course. First day all I could handle was 2 boxes of shells. Sore, winded, hit some birds, happy to be out on a decent winter day. Monday last I had an appointment with my doc. for a general checkup and he weighed me. Down to 210 lbs and have lower blood pressure, lower A1c, better breathing, am happier, and I can shoot 4 x 25 pair of doubles and 200 rounds of singles/handicap practice in a day. And even hit most of them.

When the AMA learns of my - wonder treatment for the disease of O-be-SIT-y - which is shooting your a$$ off, I bet the socialist/progressive/anti-gun organization will condemn the treatment as unsuitable for all ages and entirely too dangerous.

But. It works for me. HeH.

It is a disease and it is a result of several factors beyond just eating too much.

Yes the cure is diet and excercise but getting the cure to take is the trick.

It may be difficult to comprehend the concept of obesity as a disease but the absolute worse thing you can do is to humilate people battling obesity by taking the position that it is simply a character flaw.

Sorry...it's just NOT a disease. It IS a result of over eating (taking in more than you burn) and leads to several true disease states if not corrected quickly.

If you do truly have a metabolic condition that lends itself to weight gain, you have to lower your caloric intake to avoid the gain. The math is simple, it's the matter of overcoming the urge to be a glutton that is difficult.

All falls back on people failing to take responsibility for their bad decisions, then wanting others to fix it.

The AMA labels alcoholism a disease, so why not obesity too?

As a semi-dry alcoholic (very wet one for lots of adult life), I recognize the great temptation to have a "disease" to blame or being dysfunctional because of a "troubled childhood". In the case of EVERY alky I have known (I went to the meetings), the problem was DRINKING TOO D@MN MUCH! I am also 15-20 pounds overweight... not because I am lazy and inactive but I have the FAT disease. Even heard some nutcase who claimed obesity was a disease of POVERTY!

Enough of my rant for June...

So is diabetes not a disease?

And before you yes it is and its not the same as obesity think about that one for a sec. Also keep in mind that fat people generally don't like being fat.

Just because you think you know the cause and cure doesn't mean it isn't a disease.

Personally, I think overweight is the result of the non availability of nutrients. Animals will travel a good distance to find the plant or plants they seek in order to satisfy a deficiency.
What do people do? They eat and eat to try to satisfy their appetite but still do not get the nutrients they need to feel satisfied unless they hit on the right food for example: calcium or vitamin c.
There's a lot of good research being done but more needs to be done to find out on an individual basis what the proper balance of nutrients is for each person.
This may be what leads to deficiency/excesses diseases.

You can bet the "cure" will be low-fat, more fruits and veggies and the whole wheat and grain crapola that's making everyone fat in the first place. They keep prescribing the same old BS and it never works. Then they'll put you on some sort of statin to control your cholesterol and that will really make you feel like sh*t...........and on and on and on.......

    Cheers,

    George
