Lets use an analogy, shall we? Say you give your buddy $5 to keep his lemonade stand in business. However on the side, your buddy also sells Kool aid. This Kool Aid stand is unnecessary as it takes away from the main focus of the company, lemonade; simply because its revenue would be better spent on its prime industry rather than this outside source. You don't want your buddy to just take your money and continue with his business the way he was, because that clearly was not successful. In taking away this Kool Aid stand, your buddy can now get back on track because he has less spending that is not directly related to his main source of revenue. At least for now, his business has to focus on what his company is really about. Once he gets a grip back on his company and regains financial security, then the outside spending may resume again.
That might be terrible, but whatever.

I'll just bet the open wheelers and the ALMS are just frothing about the mouth over this news. Besides the best race car with fenders has a diesel engine and is made bu AUDI!

I wonder how the "black ops" will work between the automakes and the race teams. Seems to me that there was a lot of out the back door speed parts in the '60's.

Trappy, I'd like to ask you a serious question. Your viewpoints, as illustrated in your "analogies," meet the definition of a pure Communist bent.
Your reasons for backing Obama seem to be deeply rooted in your professed hate for the past administration.

My question is this. Have you ever read the United States Bill of Rights? Do you agree with them? If you do agree with them then I cannot understand your position as an American citizen.

If you don't agree with them then I can only consider you an enemy of the State. It's not only you but factions of most of the Democratic Party as it now stands. Do not underestimate the independent spirit of the American people. Eventually, your side will fail. It is corrupt political machine that will fall like the wall in Berlin. True American's, who truly believe in the Bill of Rights will eventually rise against you.

I'd like you to read each of the Bill of Rights and see just how wrong you and your Communist inspirations are.

Well this is true, I am definitely not a NASCAR fan. I prefer road races, and classic cars.

sarge, it is somewhat disturbing, yet I am on the fence about the issue. I completely understand your view, and I understand the other side as well. I don't think the government should control the company that much, but I also don't think the company should come to the government for bailouts.

Also, I love this "liberal elites" business. Are you aware that the majority of the wealth in this nation is owned by Republicans? How does that make liberals more "elite"?

Racing is part of the operating cost of a company IMO; it's just a form of advertising that likely pays off. But...if no NASCAR, there is trickle down effects in the economy: TV ads, TV production, and cottage industries supporting those cars; industries that likely support some smaller communities in the South, some R&D departments in the tire companies, etc., etc.

Next maybe companies will be told they may not buy product placement in motion pictures. I think there is a conundrum here; "we" don't want government to tell companies what business decisions to make, yet, I think, most citizens don't want companies taking advantage of laws that don't regulate business practices that allow squandering of loaned resources as we have seen with AIG. I imagine drawing the line is a difficult matter.

Along these lines, perhaps Obama would be well served to look at "sweetheart" deals between cities, communities, that may be in bed with sports franchises and developers. Where does it and should it end for both sides?

IMO, Trappy's point sounds logical, but it is incorrect, IMO, at the huge corporate level that needs to advertise. The little MOM/POP guy has to advertise too, but at a much smaller level.

This time I think Obama is being self-serving by flexing the muscles of power. I don't know the whole story, but did Obama let the companies present facts, if any available, that racing helps sell product and helps the economy?

P.S. So next year it will be Ford vs. Toyota in NASCAR? I bet not, privateers will race "Chevy's" and "Dodges" and be sponsored by other corporations. Think of the controversy and attention given to those cars!! Let's see, we have one car sponsored by Viagra, we might get one sponsored by the ATA or by Perrazi or Krieghoff? Nah, it's an imperfect world. But it would not surprise me if privateers showed up with GM and Dodge cars, wouldn't surprise me at all. Those cars are just silhouette cars anyway.

Well, if the now ex-CEO and the BoD of GM don't like it, then they shouldn't have taken the government porkout money in the first place. Dancing with the devil, you lay down with dogs you get up with fleas, etc.

GM should just go out of business (as well as chrysler) and regroup. This goverment regulation will kill them anyway. At least with C11 they can have a business wiht a chance. My fave was Obama proclaiming that the gov't will warranty your GM and Chrysler cars. Where at? DC behind the carwash?

He ain't done yet. There must be some other facets of people's life he can mess in.

Wait till he gets to food production. "People eat too much Red Meat". "Tofu is good for you, and will reduce our National Health Care Costs".

"Lots of people ride bicycles in Hong Kong, and we need to reduce pollution".

This iceberg is a lot bigger than people thought.

All the Democrat shenanigans are all about CONTROL! Very simple...they are of the opinion that the government should control all things from cradle to grave. Welcome to change comrade.
