Obama wants NASA to put man on an asteroid. Its an asteroid that is 4 miles across. Why would we want to land on an asteroid???? Whats there to be worth while? Why do we need to spend that kind of money on something like that?????

I haven't heard the story, but...if he could spend government money, and direct whose district it goes to...why wouldn't he be a happy camper? Florida is a swing state Obama needs, and there's a lot of disgruntled Space Shuttle program employees who lost their jobs during the Zero Regime. Every vote counts. (He knows it'll probably get shot down, anyway, and he can blame the Republicans for it during his swing through town).

Democrats have to have a legacy. A nation-full of monumental achievements paid for by generations of Americans not born yet, either in the form increased taxes or a devalued standard of living (inflation, worthless dollar, etc.).

And if a potential Republican candidate appears, representing a different viewpoint? She'll never get elected, because she'll be savaged from within her own side because she doesn't chop her own firewood, or mow her own grass, or (insert whatever other meaningless drivel here).

Such is life in the Republic. Unless we wise up, and quit letting MoveOn.org play us like a fiddle, we better get used to it.

Then the NASA official told Obama that maybe they ought to land it on Uranus.

Landing on the moon was so worthwhile? All we got was a box of rocks.

Yes a box of rocks AND the technology that made the computer you just typed your insightful message into (integrated microchip) that made it light enough and small enough to fit on your desk (printed circuit board development) AND the technology the transmitted the post to satellites and back (microwave frequency transmission) AND the technology that illuminted your post on my screen (light illuminating diode array). But other than that.....

It would be proper for Obama to take the lead on this adventure and be the first aboard the Asteroid Express. Of course, he would need some personal assistants, so maybe Pelosi could ride along and keep an eye or two out for invading marauders while Reid holds the teleprompter so we can get a blow-by-blow bloviation on the events as they unfold.

Damifino , You are right, and we will get more of the same by going to an asteroid. I was mocking Auctioneer's post.

I will be surprised if we scuttle the shuttle fleet just yet.

Here ya go fellas, this is copied from the wikipedia page on constellation...

    "Opposing Presidential viewpoints"

"President Barack Obama's stance is that Constellation is "over budget, behind schedule, and lacking in innovation."

Well whats the big problemo then ?

Sounds to me like it would fit right in with his operation!!!

The story I heard was that he wanted to land a man on the Sun.

When NASA told him we couldn't do that because the spacecraft would melt before it ever reached the surface, he asked "Well, can't you go at night?"
