MILWAUKEE - Barack Obama says the country must do "whatever it takes" to eradicate gun violence but believes in the right to bear arms.

Obama says he's offered his Senate office to help Northern Illinois University with the investigation into a campus shooting rampage. The shooting happened in his home state. Obama was campaigning in neighboring Wisconsin.

The senator, a former constitutional law instructor, says he believes the Second Amendment to the Constitution grants individual gun rights.

But he says it's subject to commonsense regulations like background checks.

What happened to his statement that anyone wanting to own a gun was mentally ill?

Sounds like election hyperbole to me.

Here we go with the politician [lack of] common sense regulation non-sense.

The law about background checks is already on the books. Enough about it. Its supposed to prevent felons, violent criminals, and adjudicated nutjobs from buying guns. Fair enough..thats all it should do...confidential and no back-door means of registration. Those criminals lost certain rights, keep it that way.

Beyond that? There aren't any new laws we need. The words common sense out of a politician are as pointless as could be.

So------the Democrats finally figured out their anti-gunnery has been costing them elections! OK, they've got control of both houses of congress now, how 'bout a bill to repeal all the anti-gun laws they've heaped on the American people in the last fourty years?

Here in Massachusetts if you are going to own a gun you must apply for a permit. If you are looking for "high capacity handguns" you must have a license to carry (LTC) if you are only going to own a shotgun or a hunting rifle a firearms identification card (FID) it takes about 6 weeks depending upon the local police chief as he has jurisdiction. Now it is bad enough that you have to go through this but when you go to by a gun you are subject to the NIC's (spelling) as well now can someone tell me how the local Government's capacity to issue their own gun laws isn't harassment of law biding citizens.

In referance to Obama, there seems to be a strong rumor, that I have heard at different times and places, that he does not pledge allegiance to the flag, and that he is a devout Muslim. IF this is true, shouldn't we all, as gun owners, be concerned. His religion is his business, but since we seem to be fighting radical muslim idea's around the world, isn't putting one in the Whitehouse a bit risky! I'm not calling him "radical", but I have no proof that his hidden thoughts are not! As for not pledging to the flag, If true, this is very serious for a possible president! As gun owners, we have a responsibilty to protect this country, and the government. The youth of the country seem to be mezmeriszed (spelling) about Obama. This too, can be dangerous for gun ownership. Lets be careful who we elect to the very precious, and important position of the presidency! Incidently, has Obama ever served this country in the military? If not, why not?

Something I believe is much more serious than Obama, we hand our kids over to our liberal education system from age 4 till.......!! When they get out they are 99% liberals. Why don't we see more outrage from parents when the kids are getting indoctinated by the liberal system?

I watched very carefully as my sons went through school and taught them what to watch for as best I could, and they told me what went on (as best they could). Some was so blatant that it was almost unbelievable but since most parents do not get involved they get away with it.

It isn't us old folks they need to work on, its only a matter of time till most of our future adults will graduate as followers of the left. Then all opposition to socialism/communism will be gone and the people will be begging for everything to be "given" to them- Oh wait, we already have that!

    Have a nice day :)

noodle- Not that I'm an Obama supporter but it was during the "Star Spangled Banner" that he wouldn't put his right hand over his heart. Obama was born to a Muslim father who left him at about 4 yrs. old. I've read that he went to a "Muslim" school but I haven't seen that fact verified. He is a Christian now belonging to some type of congregation. Read about it a while back on here but don't remember much. Just the facts as I understand them. YMMV

I've heard the muslim/pledge claims before too. Since the guy has a fair chance of being the next president, I wanted to check out the rumors. The link above is to a "Scopes" report that discusses the issue in depth.

    bocephus -

No matter what they do, SOME students actually emerge from the education system having learned how to THINK. Thus, there will always be a renewable source of non-liberals.

Today, my 8 year old daughter got to recite the pledge of allegiance over the PA at her elementry school. This is something the principal handpicks students for each day and it is viewed as an honor by the kids. Participation is voluntary of course. My daughter was very happy to be chosen and practiced for the event last night. As is listened to that young voice saying those words, I got a feeling that there is hope for the next generation. We can not let the PC gang take this from our kids. They need to believe in their country and they want to know that it is important to their parents.

I tell this personal story because our country doesn't have to De-evolve into a third world socialist state. We are responsible for our destiny but only if we make ourselves heard. Example - my daughter saying the pledge over the elementry PA, the school principal makes that happen because the citizens that pay his wages overwhelmingly support him doing that. What people do is reality what they say is not. That should just about cover any questions about Obama's act.

Yes Tom of course SOME will, but far fewer than it would take to have a strong voice in government. Just look at who most of Obama's or Hillary's supporters are agewise, the young hoping for "change"

    Have a nice day :)

"Obama said he believes in the Second Amendment, but that there is plenty of room for added gun regulations. "There is an individual right to bear arms, but it's subject to commonsense regulation," he said.

Mentioning his home city, Obama said local entities should also have the ability to have their own more strict regulations.

"I think that local jurisdictions have the capacity to institute their own gun laws…The City of Chicago has gun laws, as does Washington, D.C.," he said. "I think the notion that somehow local jurisdictions can't initiate gun safety laws to deal with gang-bangers and random shootings on the street isn't born out by our constitution.""

    GUNGRABBER PURE AND SIMPLE!
