What do you call a revolver with a long rifle type barrel 18" or more in length with a shoulder stock? Revolving rifle? I know it ain't a Buntline,I was just wondering after seeing the John Wayne movie..El Dorado for the umteenth time and Arthur Hunnicutt (Old Bull) had one.Are they available?

They were generally known as "revolving rifles"; it took a little experimenting to get the design right... <center>

That was a Colt Model 1855 revolving rifle. They were originally a percussion cap ignition, but some were later converted to metallic cartridges. I never saw Bull (Arthur Hunnicutt) load it so it's tough to know which it was. A cool rifle, but they just couldn't measure up to the Winchester lever actions which were much safer and more reliable.

"El Dorado" is one of my favorite John Wayne movies. Arthur Hunnicutt did an excellent job with his character of Bull Harris, the old Indian fighter. I consider "The Searchers" to be one of the best westerns ever made, if it matters.
