Last spring I purchased a Red Maple from the local tree outlet ($350) and planted it in my front yard. I've watered it and it gets plenty of sun light, but now, the leaves are all falling off of it. I called and talked to the weird tree guy at the outlet and he said (his words) "that's normal Buddy...what's your problem?"

Is there any recourse that I should take with this fellow?

wait till spring and see if it leafs out.

sometimes small ( transplanted)trees will lose there leafs sooner then normal.

my pink cherry & dogwoods did the first couple years

Need more details on this tree.

How old is it ? The best way to determine this is to cut it down, and count the rings.

    We'll go from there.

Go to that tree outlet, find the smart guy and smack him right in the jaw. Next thing he'll try to tell you is that it will do it every year about this time!

    Will it happen every year?

I had five of those bad boys ( one about 4 feet across) fall - 2 hit my house, one hit my workshop and one landed on my pickup truck

You are complaining about leaves falling off in October in Mich?

    LOL

    Gene,

Are you saying that you had a leaf measuring "about 4 feet across"?

    Cut back on the fertilizer!

The part that REALLY pisses me off is that this infected tree that I purchased from this idiot seems to be infecting my other trees.

OH, he's going to pay for this, so help me GOD....he WILL pay for this!

Tron: Ya ol' master gun builder ya....Go out to your tree and at the ends of the branches (if the tree is still alive and healthy) it will have small buds, and those "set" buds will be next years leaves. If the ends of the branches are dried with no life and snapwhen you bend them....well then thats not a good thing....Let us know if the guy at the garden store will be alive or dead afterwards!!?? :) Hope this helps.....
