An Oklahoma Pharmacist defending himself. Try this in Illinois or New Jersey. Hit the link above or read below

Oklahoma pharmacist kills armed robber, saves the lives of his staff

A little before 6:00 p.m., last Tuesday, two armed men rushed into the Reliable Discount Pharmacy in Oklahoma City, and demanded money and drugs. The store had been robbed two years earlier, a robbery in which the store’s employees had been forced into a back room and severely beaten.

However, this time the store had a security system with doors armed with magnetic locks, which could only be opened from the inside. The masked-men apparently knew this and waited for someone to exit, at which time they pushed a board in front of the closing door and rushed into the pharmacy.

Once inside, they demanded all of the cash and narcotics, two female technicians ran into the back room. But the pharmacist, Jerome Ersland who wears a large back brace, and is still recovering from recent surgery, could not run. But he could defend himself.

The robbers began shooting at him, with one bullet grazing him on the arm, he said he heard another round whiz past his ear.

Ersland recalled: "All of a sudden, they started shooting. They were attempting to kill me, but they didn’t know I had a gun. They said, ‘You’re gonna die.’ That’s when one of them shot at me, and that’s when he got my hand.”

Ersland grabbed the semi-automatic Kel-Tec .380 in his pocket.

"And that’s when I started defending myself,” he said. "The first shot got him in the head, and that slowed him down so I could get my other gun.”

Ersland also kept a much larger pistol in a nearby drawer, which he was able to retrieve, a Taurus Judge revolver. At that point, the second robber took off. However, the other robber was now getting up off of the floor, despite the head wound.

Ersland emptied his clip into the chest of the wounded robber, who turned out to be 16-year-old Antwun Parker.

"I went after the other guy, but he was real fast and I’m crippled,” said Ersland. Once outside, he saw a third black male sitting in a car with what appeared to be a shotgun.

Ersland said: "I pulled out my ‘Judge’ and pointed it right between his eyes and he floored it.”

Police arrested the man in the car which turned out to be stolen, after he crashed it a few blocks away. The other robber is still at large, he is described as a black male in his 20s, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and weighing 175 pounds. The suspect was last seen wearing a red shirt and dark pants.

Ersland went back into the store and found his two technicians safe but shaken.

Ersland said: "I asked if the girls were all right, and they were in the back crying. I was glad to know they were alive. We were lucky and I’m glad I defended us, because I feel that a person has a right to defend themselves at their home or at their work. People deserve to be safe and not be afraid of people that want to take money when they don’t work for it.”

As if the attempted robbery was not enough, an angry black mob gathered outside the pharmacy later that night, shouting and accusing Ersland of being a racist because he had killed the teenaged thug, who was black.

"I just regret anybody would get killed. But if I wouldn’t have been here, there would have been three people killed — the other pharmacist and the two techs.”

"I was able to return fire and protect the girls’ lives. God was helping me.”

Here are a few facts about armed Americans:

-Armed citizens shoot and kill at least twice as many criminals as the police do every year in this country (1,527 to 606).

-A 1996 University of Chicago study concluded that states which passed concealed carry laws reduced their murder rates by 8.5 percent, rapes by 5 percent, aggravated assaults by 7 percent, and robbery by 3 percent.

-According to the National Safety Council, with guns being used 2.5 million times a year in self defense against criminals, firearms are actually used more than 80 times more often to protect lives, rather than to take lives.

-A 1979 Justice Department study concluded that of more than 32,000 attempted rapes, 32 percent were actually committed. But when a woman was armed with a gun or knife, only 3 percent of the attempted rapes were actually committed.

-Another Justice Department study found that 57 percent of felons agreed that “criminals are more worried about meeting an armed victim than they are about running the police.”

Unfortunately, the second guessing is real easy after the fact. In the heat of battle (and he was in battle), killing the SOB who tried to murder him is a natural reaction.

If one of the ladies had emptied the gun into the guy there would have been no charges.

The guy is in for the fight of his life and it will cost him over $100k to defend himself. In front of a white jury, he may not go to jail. A black jury will send him to prison. I know I should not say things like that, but it is the way I believe our "justice" system works.

If he survives the murder charge, he will face a civil suit. Quick money for the lawyers and the parents of the boy gone bad.

I'm glad this is the first place I heard about this. I know the anties will NOT let this one slide through the cracks, so hopefully it stays confined to the region.

Yes the video is a bit different then the typed version but I couldnt hear who actually fired first BUT it did show the 2 entering with a a gun which would put me in fear of my life(had a 12ga put in my gut before, and suffer from 25auto gunshot wound) would be enough in my book to do what he did at the point in time, I am sure it was not pre-meditated unless he went and pumped the rounds in the kid after coming back in the store, then it was a bit of overkill.
The younger generation is way out of controll and well it is the governments fault for not allowing disapline. How many of us got a whipping for screwing up when we were lil kids, how many of us "feared our dads wrath" if we did wrong? How many of us would be soooooooooo embarrassed to have been busted by police? To the kids of to day it is a trophy and the know they will get off.
I enstill the fear of GOD in my boy at a young age and havent had to worry thus far he is 14, but let him know I would never do any thing to him to jeopodize my guns or my freedom, but he F s up I am just calling the cops and say here you deal with him he no longer lives here.
Unfortunately the government made them this way but dont do anything to fix it.

newbie, you couldn't be more wrong. Yes, there are always those kids who are trouble, but don't let those troubled kids speak for the rest of us. They represent a very small minority and it is by no means growing. Sure, discipline methods are different these days, but there is no less lack of discipline in this generation than any other.

I did not like the way the video looked, but I could not tell what was going on after he came back into the store...but the forensic guys will be able to figure it out...I hope it went down like he said.

I think the druggist got real lucky, the crooks had terrible guns skills. The lead guy had to cock his piece before he could fire and the other guy looks like he could not get his gun outta his pants...then when the lead guy took off, his partner walked right into the shot. Gave the owner a bit more needed time.

I long as I'm thinking....do you think if the owner had been black and shot a white kid there would have been a crowd of whites hollering racist? Is that not reverse discrimination? Why weren't all the white business owners protesting outside this kid's house screaming racist because this kid only robs white business owners? I guess I just don't understand how all this crap works. Thanks goodness we have a female Latino up for the Supreme Court who has the life experiences to put all this perspective for us poor dumb crackers.

bocephus, it's an assumption. Every older generation comments on the perceived negative aspects of the younger generations, I know my generation will do that too when we come of age to do so. Have you picked up on that little fact? As far as FOX News, I know, I know, I haven't forgotten. It's just not at the top of my to-do list. I'll post a thread just for you on what I take note of, but just give me some time to take care of a few more pressing issues.

Hopefully he doesn't get charged by a jury and judge with empathy for criminals.

When I first heard this story I was amazed that a guy defending himself would be charged in the first place. When I heard the rest of it I thaught this guys in touble.

I'm not a lawyer but I think in the legal world you are only allowed to us deadly force when you have no other choice. This man will be in big trouble becase a wounded man on the floor does not pose a threat to your life. If the owner had time to get to safety and phone police he should have done it. If he had time to get pull another gun and fire multiple shots he would have had time to flee to safety. This is what the courts are going to look at. He better hope that what his video survailance will show he had no other choice but to use dealdy force.

Right wrong indifferent the little shit got what he deserved. Next time remember to disable the video camera. If the guy was getting up with a gun he was still a threat. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I read where the man had been arrested for murder I guess because he shot the kid after he was down. Don't know for sure. Dan

He should have never went after the gunman after he left the store. Threat gone. Now the one on the floor, it was said he was unconscious and the man shot him 5 times. He should have called 911 and stand over him with his gun at the ready.
