A 41 year old man I've known to help others and looked upon a a kind and gentle person was caught this week stealing $4000.00 worth of pecans. He and his wife both work and have a couple of kids. It just doesn't make sense. Things of this nature seem to be going on all around us. What's your take. This man will spend a lot of time in prison away from his family for what? Jackie B.

Our culture/society is sick, and it's getting worse. Look around.

Here in rural SW Pennsylvania, home break-ins are happening at an alarming rate. Outbuildings are not safe either.

Hopefully a few guys will catch these dirtbags in the act, and ventilate them.

Teaching of values is not allowed in most schools. You can figure out the rest...

The culture reflects the leadership. Ask Eric Holder where the 'JUST' in justice went.

Maybe he had a mental break down and lost his mind temporarily. This is not his normal behavior and as bad as it is we all make mistakes. The general public is up against very unusual conditions. No job for 3 years, $4 million medical bills for wife's cancer, 3 houses, machine shop, and 4 acre building lot reposed with 16% interest rate, no unemployment benefits and 3 kids to send to college. Cheated out of $800,000 and still have not killed anyone. No excuse for stealing except for starvation to feed kids. So far food stamps can cover that situation!
With 2 recent strokes and a heart attack, I can't say I'm in complete control of my mind and maybe never was. Who's next?

Higher crime (robbery, Stealing and petty theft) always rise with higher unemployment. Always has. This is what 9% unemployment brings. Look up past FBI stats. A rise in petty crime when there is high unemployment. Bulge.

Just had a guy and his 2 kids come and shoot at our club today . Special Pie Shoot and we give a free pie per round on a green bird hit or high score . They shoot 3 rounds each , win 2 pies and leave without paying for their rounds . I call 411 for their phone number and get a private address who says don`t call here anymore because there are too many calls for this man . No phone at the street addess they gave ? He stiffs us for over $40 with his 2 young boys and he is driving a high end Volvo and I can`t find him now . We are a non profit club that donates most of what we take in so today was an $8 profit for 4 hours of shooting and 30 cases of targets used !!! Well this has been a first for us .

Where did you get that crap Joe? Are you or have you been a teacher in our public schools? Did you just graduate from high school? Upon what research did you base this opinion? There is no law against teaching ethics in schools, and in my experience, (30 plus years as a public school teacher and administrator up to current,)schools are busting their butts to teach ethics to youngsters! The problem lies in the role models they have at home!!!! And when did this become the responsibility of the schools instead of the parents?!? Martinpicker (Jack Farrow)

Check your facts. This took ten seconds at Google -

    FBI Releases 2010 Crime Statistics
    Washington, D.C. September 19, 2011

FBI National Press Office (202) 324-3691

According to the figures released today by the FBI, the estimated number of violent crimes in 2010 declined for the fourth consecutive year. Property crimes also decreased, marking this the eighth straight year that the collective estimates for these offenses declined.

Not his fault. He had a bad childhood as his father was a doper and his momma had a good reputation down at the truck stop parking lot. So see, it's not his fault.

Possible reason for the decline. More people carrying. I doubt that crime is down in 2011.
