Hoping the collective experience here can assist.

I have a Remington 552, circa 1963. It's a plinker and in very good condition. The sight set up is a rear notch with a notched ramp to adjust elevation. No adjustment for side-to-side. Front sight is fixed. Underneath the rear sight is a 3/8" dovetail that is unused. I suspect it could be used for a replacement.

The rifle has notches on the receiver for a scope, but I don't want to put a scope on it.

I would like to see if there is an adjustable rear sight available (either OEM or after-market) that could be fitted to the 552. Haven't called Remington yet, but thought I'd reach out to this group and see if anyone has replaced the factory rear sight with an adjustable rear sight.

Here are 2 views of the rear sight. The dovetail is under the scalloped piece of the rear sight. If you look carefully, you will see the notches on the rear piece of the sight.

The Owners Manual for the 552 also covers the 572. Major difference I can see is the 572 is a pump, the 552 is semi auto. Wonder if a rear 572 sight would fit the 552?

The 552 Deluxe uses an adjustable site on the rear. They do seem to sit a little higher, so a front sight may be needed too.
Also, I think the notch will take a standard 3/8" rear sight.

Numrich appears to list various sights for these rifles... Above link is to the Remington page, below specifically for the 572 - read on.

Shows a few rear sights for the 572... perhaps one of these will fit?

    A 552 Deluxe rear sight.

I believe that the sight uses the same screw holes to attach. As Avery said, you will also want the new front sight.

Keep in mind if you replace the rear sight with the BDL three piece sight you will have to replace the front sight also. The front sight will require drilling and tapping two screws. Would be easier to find a BDL replacement barrel.

Gene, is your rifle a left-hand model?

No. I'd say it's a right handed model. Shells eject to the right.

Thx for the link. Looks like some of the rear sight parts are sold out.

I'm pretty sure that the 572 std. would be the same Gene...I'm no help as my guns are both BDL's and have the deluxe site...check Midway and also ask by email because they have a lot of parts guns they will sell you pieces from that are not advertised

Barrels and sights for the 552 and 572 pump are the same.
