It seems like it's hard to find good movies anymore. The studios spend money on re-makes and special effects and not much on original, well written scripts.

I just saw "The Town" with Ben affleck and the main dude from "The Hurt Locker." It was much better than I expected (as was The Hurt Locker, by the way).

What else is worth seeing these days? Is "Inception" any good?

    -Gary

PS: Please no soapbox silliness about boycotting anti-gun or left-wing actors. I've got my own Hollywood Kook blacklist, but if you only watch movies with all conservative actors, you'll never see another movie.

The Town is awesome!!! very good directing from Affleck....and some good gun shootout scenes.

Inception is another very good movie, it makes you think, which is a turn-off for some people LOL....you just need to pay attention to the movie and not get distracted by anything going on around you...

The last good movie I saw was "Pride of the Yankees" LOL

I was contacted once by a marketing company to partcipate in a focus group about movies, music, entertainment...... At the beginning of the focus group they asked everybody what was the last good movie they enjoyed. I answered "Pride of the Yankees", then they asked what was the last album I purchased. I answered the Beach Boys - "Endless Summer" or "Pet sounds', something like that. They called me out of the room and gave me $40 bucks and sent me home. I've always wondered if I got the prescreener canned.

True Grit was good, but it would have been a lot better if it wasn't a remake of one of John Wayne's better movies.

No one can fill the Duke's shoes.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check out some of the movies mentioned.

In the mean time I rented a movie from 2003 called "Open Range" with Robert Duvall, Kevun Costner and Annette Bening. It was the back half of my Two-For-$1 rental and I must say I got my 50 cents worth! Seriously, it was pretty good. Duvall is always a good bet. All the way back to the classic "The great Santini."

Two Dogs, you had me going for a second there.

"The Road" is also very good, although you may be quite depressed for a week or so after watching it!

Viggo Mortenson is also great in "Eastern Promises," "A History of Violence," and "Hidalgo."

you want to see a movie that goes beyond the obvious and deals with something we're all familiar with then go see The Fighter. The movie is as much about family dynamics as it is the struggles within the boxing culture.

The performance by Christian Bale is brilliant - Oscar worthy IMO. he NAILED that character.

Gary, if you like Sci-Fi type shows and like to think while watching a show do watch "The Mist". Best Movie I've seen in last 2 years. Made #3 or #4 spot on scariest movie of the year as well. There's even a section in it that reminded me of the Alfred Hichcock days of movie making. Break-em all. Jeff
