The bookies have Penn State as only 3 point favorites against my Wolverines. Thats pretty amazing given what there ranking is in the polls. What gives?
    Go Blue!

One reason is Las Vegas makes the lines to attract the public into betting both teams. That way they get juice money. They could also think that your Nittany Lions aren't as good as the public perceives them to be. Matt

Matt, I'm a Wolverine not a Nittany Lion. But still a number 10 against an unranked team. I'm just looking for some more points. lol Go Blue and Go Detroit Lions!

The bookies in Vegas actually have their own ranking system that they generally go by and then tweak from there. I heard it on ESPN Radio's Colin Cowherd show a couple of weeks back. If I remember correctly, it was 1. USC , 2. Florida, 3. LSU, 4. Oklahoma, 5. Texas, 6. West Virginia. (Granted this was before Texas's horrible squeak win vs. Central Florida) With these rankings, on a neutral field the higher ranked team would be favored, and the farther they are apart the bigger the spread. Then you get the field goal or the touchdown for the home team (of course that depends the quality of the home field such as LSU at night). Then of course this all gets tweaked based on getting the money even. But this still boils down to one thing...The Big 10 is over rated as always and the Lions should not be number 10 in the country.

Hank, Sorry for calling you a PSU fan. I think that Michigan +3 is a good bet. I actually like it at that. Like I said before Vegas makes odds on two things: Money going both ways and public perception. I like wagering on football games, and have been doing so for awhile. I have always heard the term "public money" I never understood how the public was that important. Until I went to Vegas for the first time in the spring. I hung around the sportsbook and bet the ponys a few days. When I saw how many people come in there and bet, I understood. There are people who don't even watch football, and they are in Vegas with a 100 to spend. They have all heard how Michigan was defeated by Appalachian State. They see Penn State is only favored by 3. PSU is #10 in polls, they throw the money down on Penn State. Guess what happens? Vegas makes money, and probably Michigan wins or covers. I have seen too many games that are too good to be true. Vegas knows what they are doing because the lights are still glowing there. Me, I will take the points on Saturday. By the way, I do not have anything for or against Michigan. Matt
