Had to put down my 7yr. old Rott. Romeo. He had bone cancer in his left rear leg. The vet said it was the worst case he'd seen in all of his years of practice. The wife and I both are broken-hearted. I am going to shoot a 100 birds tomorrow in his memory. Lawson Rupert.

Best thing to do is jump right back in there and adopt one of his homeless little brothers...you loved your old boy and there are lots in lonely cages who would give anything to warm your lap ...believe me it helps..and you would be doing it for him

So sorry to hear of your loss. My rott of many years had to be put down 2 years ago now and it was probably one of the very hardest thing that I have ever had to do. Cried like a little girl and still miss her. Read that rainbow bridge story, it is in my office. John

I'm a dog lover too so I can certainly empathize. I dread the day that I have to face what you and your wife are going thru. Time will help to heal, but always remember the good times you were fortunate enough to enjoy with Romeo.

Had to put down our 12 year old Sheltie a couple of years ago and I still tear up when I think of him. Yes, I was right there with him when the vet put him down. I had promised him I would be. Hope the following is of some comfort to you.

For my pet loving friends. This may bring tears to your eyes.....

    A PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS
    ..
    1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is
    likely to be painful.
    ..
    2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
    ..
    3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
    ..
    4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as
punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainments,
    but I have only you.
    ..
    5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand
your voice when speaking to me.
    ..
    6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
    ..
    7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I have teeth
that could easily crush the bones in your hand, and yet I choose not to
    bite you.
    ..
    8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if
something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right
food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old
    or weak.
    ..
    9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too will grow old.
    ..
    10. On the difficult journey, on the ultimate difficult journey, go
with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make
me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there,
    because I love you so.
    ..
Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good
care of them. Life would be a much duller, less joyful thing without
    God's critters.

    ..
We do not have to wait for heaven to be surrounded by hope, love, and
joyfulness. It is here on earth and has four feet.
