On Nov 28, I had a colonoscopy that revealed a tumor in my colon. We spoke to the doctor Friday and he told us it is malignant and requires immediate surgery. I'm scheduled to have a CT scan tomorrow afternoon that will determine how much (if any) the cancer has spread. My surgery is scheduled for December 14th at Edwards Hospital, Naperville, IL where I'll be for about 5-6 days. Life has a way of throwing us curve balls when we least expect it and I definitely didn't see this one coming. Other than what I consider the normal vagaries of aging (small aches and pains), my overall health has been excellent and I have been feeling fine.

The future is pretty scary right now, and we hope you will all be prayer warriors on my behalf. Many of you may recall the problems I had with my retina in 2002. The doctors had pretty much given up on me regaining my eyesight, but I am firmly convinced that Jesus intervened on my behalf and my eye has been fine since then. I know that God has a plan for all of us and we know that He will see us through this. After the surgery, we'll let you all know how things went.

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.

Sorry to hear about your unwanted discovery. I'll say an extra prayer for you.

Colon cancer is the most preventable kind of cancer if we would all get a clonoscopy after the age of 50. I had my first one 15 years ago and had 3 polyps removed which, today, would have been cancer. I go back every 3 years and each time, pre-cancerous polyps have been removed thus saving me from Gene's present health challenge.

The day before is the uncomfotable part, the colonoscopy is really nothing and may well save your life.

Count me amongst those sending prayers your way. Colon cancer caught early is very treatable - hang on to that thought.

All the best to you and your family. Remember, HE never gives us more than we can handle, let HIM handle the rest.

3 club members here all had colon cancer and beat it. They are all shooting regularly (and beating me). Also my friend's wife. I have much confidence in your outcome.

    Best wishes.

    Gene

I had colon surgery in 2000 to remove my whole ascending colon. The surgery went well. I now have a follow up colonoscopy every two years just to make sure. Every one over 50 should have the colon checked, and regularly.

My thoughts, and prayers are with you. You should do just fine.
