    Fellow trapshooters.com gang

I'll be leaving the USA for a couple of years. I've accepted a job assignment in South Africa. Haven't heard yet my exact date of departure, but it'll be within a month or two.

I'll still be checking in on my favorite website from time to time. Only a 7 hour time difference.

I've done a little research, and apparently, they shoot ATA trap over there, and there is a means for me to get my trap gun into the country. Plus, there's a club within about 10 miles of where I'll be living. We'll have to see how that works out.

    Shoot well my friends!

From the pictures that I've seen, S. Africa is a beatiful country with some great beaches. I just wouldn't want to go swimming in the ocean!

Have fun and enjoy your time there.

Mike, yeah we used Skype when our daughter was over in Ireland doing a semester abroad.

It has its difficulties, but it works great when internet usage is slow, like on Saturdays and Sundays.

Actually, this is the second time I have failed the sanity test. About 20 years ago, I packed up the wife and (then 7-month-old) kid and moved for 4 years to Thailand.

I won't be so bold as to say that I've "been there done that" but having done an international assignment before, there's a lot less "trepidation." I survived the previous stay overseas. There are folks in Johannesburg working now whom I know and trust who say they love it.

The kid is 21 and in college, so we're at a point in our lives where we have nothing holding us back.

When opportunities like this present themselves to see a part of the world we might otherwise never have witnessed, we figured, why not?

My wife is actually more excited about it than I am. For me, day to day, its not going to be all that much different than working in an office over here.

No doubt, living abroad has made my appreciation for all the things we take for granted in the USA MUCH greater.

    But its only 2 years.

Interesting to know they shoot ATA not DTL.

Post some pictures here, I'd love to see it.

Wishing you the best, enjoy and be safe.

The guy who e-mailed me said they shoot ATA Trap, ATA Trap Doubles, DTL Trap, NSSA Skeet, Olympic Skeet, Olympic Trap, Olympic Double Trap, Universal Trench, and Sporting Clays.

I don't even know what universal trench is.

Good luck! Best wishes! At least they speak English over there, unlike here where half the people don't.

Let's hope in 2 years there is a USA for you to come back to.

    timb99,
Good luck and stay safe. My cousin was there about 4 months ago for a stock car racing related trip. He enjoyed himself but said it was definately different. Manageable though. After being there, he agrees with me 100%. Worst thing they ever did there was let Nelson Mandella out of prison and cease to let the white people rule the country. They used to have a vibrant economy and a tourist mecca. Now, not so much. Oh well, see you in two.

Tim, I think that it would impress everyone if you came back from Africa with one of those lip discs. Those things rock!
