They must be yanks. Us southern engineers would have certainly used something to keep that power strip higher out of the water.

Kinda like using a .22 rimfire round to replace a fuse in an older car. I hope they had it hooked to a GFI circuit. Actually, maybe I wouldn't hope for that. It could be that Darwin's theory of natural selection is a good thing. :)

Quack Shot ... I think MythBusters proved that to be just a myth.

The picture of the electric cord in the swimming pool reminds me of two unfortunate and needless death caused by 110 volt current.

One death was a wealthy man working on his vacation property. He was building a dock for his cabin cruiser and using an electric saw to cut the ends off of some boards. Unfortunately, he was standing waist deep in the river at the time.

Another death happened at an apartment complex in which we were living. A heavy spring rain caused the basement to flood and a woman tried to change a light bulb while standing on an aluminum ladder. The ladder was in the water.

AH yes! The Almighty Myth Busters! I just don't think it would be a good idea to use a live round as a fuse in a circuit that has a known problem with blowing fuses. If it doesn't go off, it certainly can let the factory smoke out of the wiring or even start a fire, if you're lucky enough! You'd be lucky if it went off, since it would probably do little damage. It's the fire thing that worries me the most. They make fuses work the way they do for a reason. They are designed to stop the flow of current in the circuit when it goes beyond a predetermined limit. A .22 Rimfire shell does not stop conducting electricity until it disconnects from the fuse block, live round or not.

In the Myth Busters segment, (at least in the segments they SHOWED) the .22 round got hot enough to detonate, and of course the cartridge left the fuse holder, thereby removing the "dead short".

But I agree with you that it is not the cartridge per se that is the problem, that is to say not the detonation of the round, but rather it is the variation of the "penny in the fuse box" remedy for a blown fuse in house (that burned down).

lYou need to use some duct tape on that outlet strip so it doesn't get wet.
