I still don't get how something as cheap as drywall can be shipped here and sold at at discount.

I guess it's time to buy stock in companies making vinyl wallpaper and/or paneling.

Or could they paint this over with Kilz to seal in the problem? After a fire I used it to get rid of smoke odors in the house, nothing else worked.

    Sheesh.

Years ago it use to be Trailer Homes built with chemicals coming from the material in them and even those built for the New Orleans flood ?? Don`t get me wrong , I think that come from USA products !! We should stop all materials coming from China and let them survive on the interest coming from the money we borrowed from them .

Don't hold your breath waiting for a NYT best-selling book by Tom Friedman about contaminated milk, toxic drywall, and lead in childrens' toys.

The "intelligentsia" isn't fascinated by the "transformational" aspects of those things.

My parents bought a home near Vero Beach, Florida, a year or so ago that turns out to have been built with this wall board. According to the discussions we've had with the builder, a ship load was brought into the country... enough to built about 136,000 2800 sq.ft. houses. Parents started having problems in the fall with wiring that corroded at the outlets and receptacles. The A/C has failed twice.

The builder will be demolishing their house in a couple weeks and rebuilding it from scratch at no cost to them. He will also pay for their housing while the rebuilding is in progress. They were fortunate to have bought from this builder.

Come on guys where is the capitalistic spirit????? I haven't heard about the great course of capitalism and it's making everyone rich in the way it works. Geeze I am amazed that J and Brian haven't gotten on the bandwagon with this one just because their hero got rid of most of the inspectors of goods that were imported in this country we didn't need them remember? That was Reagan. I for one haven't heard of a drywall shortage in this country. If there was I just happened not to have heard about it. In my opinion the importers should have to pay for the replacement of the faulty drywall in those affected homes. I'll bet there will be plenty of lawsuits about this. Always remember "Leise Fare" let the buyer beware. Cover your own ass. Dan

I guess a socialist like you could have prevented this huh dahaub. This has nothing to do with capitalism, it does however have everything to do with greed and stupidity.

I've got a buddy who has purchased 3 homes in the Ft. Myers area in the last couple of months. These are new houses that nobody has ever moved into that were built around 2006. They were all bank - short sales. Hope none of these houses have the drywall.

He's been trying to talk me into buying one down there. These houses are selling for less than half what they first went on the market for a few years ago. Might not be such a good deal after all.

Toxic drywall - who would've ever thought? What next toxic brick?

Wonder who the lawyers will go after? Most of the builders in South Florida are already gone. Suppliers, I guess. Good luck on collecting from a Chinese manufacturer.

Study the WTO and the IMF. All that crap product and the copy cat versions of designs the red chinese stole, are coming here on shipping that is heavily, if not fully, subsidized by the good hearted taxpayers of the USA. I really do not remember anyone asking me if I wanted to pay for the chinese to undermine fair trade practices in my own country.....
