Ok go ahead and get your jollies and jokes out of the way and then tell me a site I can get a fruit cake made with red wine instead of rum or brandy. I can't help myself, I love fruitcake. I attend FA during the year but I'm beyond help.

I've always heard there has only been one fruit cake ever made, it keeps getting passed around. Sorry Dave had to do it. Wayne

Everyone should be made to eat Claxton Fruit Cake at least once in their life. Kind of like a right of passage.

My nephew asked me the other day what the nasty things in the cookies where. I told him that they were stale gummy bears.

The best fruitcakes come from Collin Street Bakery, Corsicana Texas. They are scrumptious.

The receipt that my wife uses to make a fruit cake for the holidays is the best I have ever eaten. Better by far than any commercial ones I have ever tasted, and that is about every one I have ever looked at. You can flavor it however you want, since the flavor is added by soaking the cloth the fruit cake is wrapped with every few days with wine, rum, or brandy. The cake is wrapped in a cloth and aged for 30 days in the frig after it is baked before it is actually at it's best, and that is when the flavoring is imparted to the cake.

Zardozforty I could not have put my feelings into words any better. To me having a really good fruit cake in the pantry is like having money in the bank.

Double Auto, I live about 50 miles from Claxton Georgia, the home of the Claxton fruit cake. Short of the ones my Grandmother used to make a Claxton is the best I've ever had and I've tried a lot of them. Years ago while stationed in England and then in Japan I always managed to still get a Claxton fruit cake. Jackie B.

I remember seeing a program about fruitcakes on cable.

They had a 100 year old fruitcake, always sealed, and poured more rum on it , every few years. There was about 1/2 of it left, and the cut a couple of thin slices off from it and resealed it. the fruitcake was still as good as new!

Get a fruit cake any kind. Put in oven on very low for four hours or so and dry it out as much as possible. Let it cool and add you own brandy and let it soak in while sitting on a elevated rack, excess will drain out. Add as much or as little as you want.

This works great on banana bread also.

Two or three slices is about all you need.
