At the last minute Leo has decided to come with me to Honolulu to watch our daughter play in a basketball tournament. We will have one day to be a "tourist" and of course, Leo would love to go fishing. Can anyone recommend a good charter boat?
I was kind of hoping someone "local" could give me the scoop on the best charter out of Honolulu. Jerry, I'm not sure a picture of Leo in a grass skirt will be printable.....see ya in January at Dixie.

Capt. Bob Roller has charter boats in Hilo and Kona on the big Island of Hawaii.
If you are going to be on the big Island then email me for Capt. Bob's email address.
I am not familiar with the charter boats out of Kewalo Basin, Honolulu, Oahu. Tomorrow a friend from Oahu is visiting, I'll ask him if he can refer anyone.
Also you may want to send an e-mail to Elton (ERM),if he does not post. He lives on Oahu.
Big game fishing season is pretty much over. There are some Mahimahi (El Dorado/Dolphin Fish), Big Eye Tuna, and Skipjack Tuna (Aku) around the south side of Lanai.
Jason, I had Elton's email address at one time, but can't come up with it now. I won't ask you to publish it here, but if you would send me any "local" Hawaii shooter's emails (send to my personal email above) I would really appreciate it.
My friend said that the charter boat "Magic" is the hot boat right now, they have been catching some 100 lb Ahi (Yellow Fin Tuna) phone: 808-596-2998. Another boat that he recommended is the "Maggie Joe". You can check out their website above, they actually have a fleet.
I'll e-mail you Elton's address, his is the only one of the Oahu trap shooters I have on file. He is our delegate.
Boat is in the water, picked up some small ahi and aku Sunday. Now if Leo was on Maui teaching us how to add a bird or 3 to our average, we could figure something out. Not sure if Leo would want to ride around in a 19 foot boat in the open ocean to catch some small tuna.
If he doesn't have his heart set on saltwater fishing, you might look into some peacock bass fishing. I know they have some on Kauai, not sure about the other islands.
Thanks for all the info. When I said we only had one day to be a tourist, what I meant was that we only had one day that didn't already have something scheduled. We plan on spending time with our daughter and her college basketball team. They are planning on a visit to Pearl Harber and a luai (hope I spelled that right) plus of course the ball tournament that is the reason for the trip. Leo loves to fish, he probably wouldn't care what he caught or what kind of boat he went out on as long as the "action" was fun. We had considered a clinic while we were there, but our plans were unsure until the last minute so we didn't schedule any class. Maybe that would be a great excuse to come back at another time. Neither one of us have ever spent any time in the islands so we are really looking forward to a rare few vacation days without a shotgun. Thanks again.....
The Finest Kind was a charter we used to take out of Maui. I don't know if she moves around or if she is still fishing off of Maui but boats sometimes move and the Finest Kind was known for her live bait techniques. We caught a bunch of Marlin,Tuna, Wahoo and Dorado from her decks. Have fun what ever you do and the Memorial will be a high point. Jeff
