Just got this in an email and the Liberals over here in the USA want this?
One of the Doctors on the neurosurgeon team when I had my spinal cord surgery, lives in Windsor Ontario, 15 minuets from Detroit Receiving Hospital where I had my surgery, in Detroit MI. She doesn't practice over there because it's so screwed up. Judge for yourself.

One of the guys that helped install the basketball court in my backyard this last summer said he is from Canada and was going to have to wait 6 months to have his knee repaired in Windsor. The owner of the concrete company he worked for paid for his surgery here in Ann Arbor MI and was out and on his feet, within the six months he would have had to wait. Just what we need is a Billary health plan.

For twenty years I have traveled to New Brunswick several times each year to my camp there. What Jerbear is showing you is no exageration. That is the real world of Canadian Health care. Not for us I hope. Bob H.

Actually I tend to agree with Lutjic73 and here's why....When someone like Michael Moore puts out a "DOCUMENTARY" which to my minds satisfaction, has been proven wrong on numerous points it takes the foundation out of his "facts". He could have stated why he disagrees with whoever is the subject of his tirades and then backed up his argument with FACTS, not opinions or conjecture. I just completely disagreed completely with him without labeling him a ____ (fill in the blank). He has the right to put out what ever he has the money to produce but when he throws it in my face I have the right to disagree with it. When it gets proven (some might say subjectively) that his facts are not facts, then he lowers himself to being nothing more than a widely known "troll" on a national scale. Sincerely,

flincher100, be careful what you wish for. Someday the health care that Canada has may be a reality here and You my friend may need a life saving operation and will be dying to get it.

I have had 4 different operations in the last 7 years just to stay on my feet.
I can't imagine have to wait in Canada 6 years for a hip replacement and the pain involved with that wait. Those who have gone through it on this forum will tell you, when you are counting the steps to the bathroom just to take a pee and wondering if it's worth the pain for the walk, THEN and only THEN will you realize what we have over here. It may not be perfect but at least I can make an appointment with a Orthopedic surgeon and get help in a timely manner. Any other Hippies or those with knee replacements, feel free to chime in.

To keep on subject... 7 1/2 or 8's.

flincher100 I don't want this to sound like an attack but I think it is interesting to note that you say. "As soon as there gets to be "discussions" involving politics, (or religion),it will start the "Liberal", or "Conservative" "Republican", or "Democrat" name-calling labels, and bashing" If this is the case why does it seem that you seldom post until this type of thread is started? After all if you don't like the topic you don't have to respond. These people are entitled to their opinion even if you don't care for them.

I don't understand after all the comments that the Liberal Democrats have made in the press over the past 8yrs about Republicans. Or the fact that Michael Moore has never made a "DOCUMENTARY" that shows a Liberal policy in a bad light. Just what would expect? Or is it just more fun to jump in and try to aggravate the posters and try and get something started that you can then sit back and enjoy. Please give us all a break and stop acting like a spoiled child.

I can't speak on the WHO but living so close to the Windsor Canada border and ALL of my doctors have Canadian associates because of the attitude toward their doctors over there, I find it interesting that it takes a very long time to get someone to look at you because the government is paying for it.

Rankings or not I don't care about the WHO.

Maybe because Canada does not have as many illegal aliens sucking their health system dry. Stands to reason, if you can be seen for an injury or illness within mins. or hours here in the US and you have to wait days or months or even years, you would go to where you can be seen first. Hospitals here are bankrupt because of nonpayment but still have an obligation to see a patient, even if he or she has no insurance and seen in a timely manner.

Our hospitals Er's here in SE MI, are advertising that if you are not seen within 30 mins. apon arrival, you will receive free movie tickets or some other incentive.

That's why they have become clinics instead of trauma centers.

I wonder if the WHO takes that into consideration?

OK ...you don't like Canada's health care system....BUT the bottom line is that Canada ranks much higher in the world ranking of health care than the US, PLUS Canadian's live 4 years longer on ave. than A US citizen...and that's a fact...Somewhere in Canada, someone must be doing something right?...........

While all of you are debating the merits or the lack of merits of the Canadian health care system. I am a little stuck on the answer to the question about his collecting the money spent to save his own life he was told No you didn't ask permission to save his own life so no refund.

I don't know about the rest of you but that is not my idea of how a free country operates if it is yours I feel sorry for you. To be told you can try to save your own life because we don't move fast enough to do so. If you however don't bother us about it. I am sorry that just doesn't cut it for me.

Canadians wait an average of 25% longer for ER care than do Americans. Their waits for orthopaedic, cardiac, and other specialty operations run over one year in many instances. These data are not anecdotal, or from American studies, but from places like the University of Alberta. There is also a lack of devices like MRI's, even though GE manufactures them in Canada. Canada also has a shortage of specialists.

Like Jerbear, I live in SE Michigan. There are lots of Ontario license plates in the doctors' parking lots in the Detroit area. The same holds true in the Buffalo/Erie area of New York.

    Best,
    Dennis

flincher100, what Bob is talking about is at the end of the video I posted, the man with the brain tumor wanted reimbursement for the $28000.00 surgery he paid for in Buffalo NY and the Ontario minister of health told him no. He is suing the government and will probably win because others already have won their cases in the supreme court in Canada. Watch the video clip.

We have some people here in the Michigan legislature that want to duplicate the Ontario health care system and it's going to be bad. Ask yourself if you had to wait 8 months to find out you had a cancerous brain tumor, would you do everything possible in the world to survive or have the government tell you too bad you have to wait.

That's what Bob was referring to.

I hear horror stories every time I go the my doctors and talk with their assistants, like I said the WHO rating doesn't mean crap to me but our own state government wants to duplicate Ontario's health plan, I will stand up and have my voice heard on this issue, you can count on that.

Our Governor Jenny Grandmole said quote "you will be blown away" in her inaugural speech and she is right... there is nobody left here in Michigan with a good job... We got blown away alright.

I think someone is being a bit simplistic here.

I am Canadian and would never give up my health care system.

Although some wait times are a problem, the system is responding in a more timely fashion that in recent years. One of our problems is we had a Premier who wanted hospitals to operate at 100% capacity and fired a large number of our nurses. The doctors were so unhappy, many of them left for the US. That wasn't because of the health care system, but the way they were treated by tax cutter Mike the thug.

One thing I know for sure is I will not lose my house and my life savings because I need money to pay my health care bills.

Who does the rating on health ratings on the individual
countries care? Probably the United Nations or some other world group. If they have to wait forever and DIE I guess this would be cosidered a + rating as they never saw the patient and therefore isn't considered a negative rating in the world rating system. It is the same with our schools, we are rated lower than most countries because we have to allow all "students" an education, even those with severe mental and physical problems and those that can't possibly be taught anything. They have a 1 on 1 tutor and their scores (which are 0 ) have to be counted into our averaging of students grade ratings. Sometimes I think we have gotten carried away with the "feel good" education. If they didn't have to take all the baggage and could actually reprimand a student I think our ratings would be at or near the top. I'm not a teacher and sure as hell don't want to be one. flincher100, I'll be sure to pass that along to my doctor next month when I see him. Here in MI, BCBS is the largest "non profit" insurer in the state and is buying up all the smaller insurance companies to remain the largest. My doctor has dropped all Blue Care Network patients because he has to see a certain amount of them per month, that means he had about 5 mins to see me. I'm glad my doctor decided to follow his conscience and treat his patients and not cater to the insurance companies. Quality of care is more important then quantity of care.

Anybody wondering what health care would be like if the government took over the system is encouraged to visit the nearest Veteran's hospital.

Well it is great to here from someone who lives in Canada and uses their health care system. All of you that post here that think you know something about their system because you know someone or read something or watched a show and became instant expert, WOW. You don't even know the US health system and how it fares with the rest of the world. I am sorry that we are not the best at everything in the world, but I have been able to come to grips with it and face reality. Our health care in America is a nightmare and will remain so as long as your well being is left to insurance companies and their greed. The WHO rankings should be a wake up call for all of us that use the most expensive health care system in the world and look what we get for our money! How many of you would pay $10000.00 for an $75.00 H&R Topper
