I have another thread regarding the Toyota 4Runner. I'm very interested in buying this SUV and have asked my dealer (not a Toyota dealer) to get me a Vehicle Maintenance Report (VMR) on this SUV. A VMR would list all maintenance done on the vehicle by any Toyota dealer. The answer we got from the dealer contacted was "We don't have access to that kind of information".

So, if anyone here works for Toyota, I'd love to know (1) Doesn't Toytoa maintain a database of maintenance done of their vehicles? and (2) How could I get access to it for this SUV?

If someone wishes to answer this in a PM, please do so.

PS Yes, I plan to get a CarFax and I realize a VMR might not have ALL maintenance listed. This is called due diligence.

........and a car fax will only include info that was reported to insurance. IMO, you're better off buying from an individual. If you're mechanically challenged, pay a mechanic to look over your prospective vehicle. Anything the mech. finds wrong can usually be negotiated into the price. Just my .02.

You want access to a Toyota dealer's information about your vehicle...while buying the vehicle from a Chevy dealer?

    Gene,

I work for a toyota dealership on the sales side. If you PM or email me the VIN I'd be happy to look and see what I can find for you. I can also get you a Carfax for free so you don't have to spend any of your $$ on it.

Just an FYI, the 4runner is one of the nicest/longest lasting SUV's I've ever seen. 250k is kinda the norm that we take them in on trade, and then someone buys it for their kids and gets another 100k+ out of it.

Let me know if I can help.

Folks, due to an unrelated issue, we will not be going forward on buying the 4Runner.
My sincerest thanks to all who assisted and gave their input.
