The AFL-CIO wants a Democrat in the White House and a Democrat controlled Congress to further the cause of organized labor. So what is surprising about that?

Traditionally, the Republican Party has been the party of big business and the Democratic Party has been the party of organized labor.

With all of the “add on” social issues of the day, i.e., gay rights, abortion, gun control, etc., this basic distinction between the Republican and Democratic parties is often overlooked.

The AFL-CIO wants laws passed or changer to support organized labor, plain and simple.

Some of these laws include regulation of:

    International trade and tariffs

    Interstate commerce

    Corporate tax rates

    Personal tax rates

    Minimum wage

    Health and safety

    Environmental safety

    Employee Retirement Income Security Act

    Fair Labor Standards Act

    Pension law

    Affirmative action

    Discrimination - sex/race/age/sexual orientation/physical

Various union organization laws such as “closed shop” and other laws

Again, the AFL-CIO wants a Democrat in the White House to support union issues.

I am sure that the AFL-CIO would like to stem the flow of manufacturing jobs overseas and allow union organizers to enter new fields such as health care and business back office.

I remember a television discussion between a union representative and a news commentator on the issue of gun control when Bill Clinton was seeking his first term. The news person asked if union members should vote Republican so as to preserve their 2nd Amendment rights or Democratic to preserve their jobs. The union representative responded that, if they vote Republican to save their guns then they probably would loose their jobs but have more time to hunt.

The irony is how the Demoncraps shafted the unions by joining the Repugnantguns in supporting NAFTA.<br>
Now the unions are embracing illegal aliens...er..."undocumented workers"...wanting to unionize them.

The people have had enough with the Rep.(Bush) show and what has transpired with this country over the last few years. Wait till the Rep. Dem. debates go on stage. Do you think MCcaine will flip on Bush's policies? That is where you'll get a Dem. in the White House....Ziggy

The unions DO NOT want illegals, working in this country. What they DO want is a fast track to amnesty. Not only will this significantly increase their membership numbers (and $$$$ to the union bosses' pockets), but will also ensure a democrat vote evey election year. Illegals can't vote (at least, not supose to).

The union don't give a shit about a few higher waged jobs, when 20 million lower waged jobs will produce the same monthly dues.
