Some here may recall the ignorant and hateful remarks Sally Field made at this year's Emmy Awards. A good friend of mine went to school with the lady who authored the following editorial letter printed in the Chicago Tribune. I thought, given the number of former military here, especially Marines, many of you might appreciate reading her remarks.

    Clueless Field
I was disgusted but not surprised by Sally Field’s outburst at the Emmy Awards (News, Sept. 18). How insulting that she chose to speak for the mothers of the military personnel who are serving our country. How dare she imply that we are sending our children off to slaughter.

To begin with, our military does not enlist children. They are adult men and women who made a conscious decision to defend the very freedom she has chosen to abuse. They have responded to the call to protect our country against fanatics who have placed a bounty on our ships, our buildings and our freedom.

    To think otherwise is foolish.

Our military is well trained, prepared and willing to stand strong in front of the face of terror. When they receive awards, it is for true acts of selflessness and bravery, not for a mindless, vapid waste of airtime.

Field is just another example of one more Hollywood actress claiming to be an expert because of a character she plays on a weekly TV series.

The role I have as a mother of a Marine is real. There is nothing in Field’s TV experience that allows her to feel the spectrum of emotions, from terror to heart-bursting pride, that we military mothers feel every day.

Gene; My thanks also. It is really to bad that the phony big mouths get all the press and the real people serve and live in the back ground.

There's a big difference speaking from the heart of one who knows, versus someone who thinks they know. The Hollywood types have been acting too long, and have lost contact with reality.

I have reconstructed an email I received yesterday... sorry for the dial up people but I think it belongs in this thread.

You stay up for 16 hours

He stays up for days on end.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You take a warm shower to help you wake up.

He goes days or weeks without running water.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You complain of a 'headache', and call in sick.

He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You put on your anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet up with your friends.

He still fights for your right to wear that shirt.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You make sure you're cell phone is in your pocket.

He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You talk trash about your 'buddies' that aren't with you.

He knows he may not see some of his buddies again.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls.

He patrols the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You complain about how hot it is.

He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong.

He doesn't get to eat today.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes.

He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You go to the mall and get your hair redone.

He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over.

He's told he will be held over an extra 2 months.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight.

He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday.

He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You roll your eyes as a baby cries.

He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll ever meet.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything.

He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You hear the jokes about the war, a nd make fun of men like him.

He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You see only what the media wants you to see.

He sees the broken bodies lying around him.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't.

He does exactly what he is told even if it puts his life in danger.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You stay at home and watch TV.

He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep, and eat.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable.

He tries to sleep but gets woken by mortars and helicopters all night long.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

If you support your troops, send this to 7 people.

If you don't support your troops well, then don't send this out.

You won't die in 7 days, your love life won't be affected, and you won't have the worst day ever. You don't have to email this. It's not like you know the men and women that are dying to preserve your rights.

    <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

Please God watch over our troops and bring them home safe.... Jerbear

Anyone who wants this email send me your address at the top and leave out the acb/

Sally Fields is just an over paid liberal democrat whore that couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the directions were on the heel. She could make America a better place, If she would just get the hell out.

Thanks jer. Touching stuff. Anyone who thinks that we shouldn't be there after seeing the video on here the other day showing those people lying on their faces, and being executed, needs their effing head checked. It may not be "our war", but those people are still human beings. That's why we're the US, and not france.Call it oil, call it what you want, the troops on the ground are there to help human beings, not argue politics.

And don't forget, there are people on this very site, that say, and have said the exact same crap as Sally Fields. When I got nasty with them about it, my post got deleted. HMMMMMM..........

Sally Field has that "look" like all liberals that tells you that there is something not quite right about them. They have a mental disorder. When you look into a liberal's eyes, all you see is the black self loathing and hatred for everything America was built on. Too bad natural selection cannot cure this for us.

Great posts and I will share the pics with my 24 year old boy tonight.

Everyone remember, when talking about hollywood 90% of these actors are told what to do or say by an elete few,if they don't play ball they don't act, no acting,no money and where could these people get a job, where they really had to work? There are 5% that can really act and write there own ticket, but they go along with the 90% because they are followers not leaders. The last 5% are mindless twits (lindsey lohan) drunks and drug addicts that are condoned and supported by the elete few to bring up to the public as saved by going to rehab and dry out tanks. They go by the almighty dollar, who controls it makes the rules who gets to play the game for the easy money. In all of hollywood now,how many do you think have served there country in the military? No all these people are loosers, they should stick to acting in there fanciful world and leave the real world to the ones who can deal with reality every day.

Remember, these Hollywood types spend their entire lives pretending to be someone else.

Remember when Congress had Cissy Spacek before one of the agrucultural committees in the 1980's because she had a starring role in a movie about a farm?

I'm surprised those a$$holes in Congress didn't call George C. Scott before a defense committee because he played General George S. Patton.

Wait a second. Maybe I could testify before Congress about the wildfires in California. I once wrote a three page essay about forest conservation when I was eleven years old.

    Thanks Jerbear.

I am going to use the picture of the young soldier taking a knee as my background on this computer. That way when I sit down here after a "hard" day at work...A Hard day. Right, that really does sound stupid after seeing that picture doesn't it?

Just look at his face. I wish I could remember who said it but the phrase always comes to me when I see pictures like that.

"Where do we find such fine young men?"

If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read it in English, thank a soldier.

AJ100 - The line comes from the picture "Bridges At Toko Ri", starring William Holden and Frederic March. March is on the bridge of the aircraft carrier shortly after Holden's and Mickey Rooney's characters are killed by North Koreans when Holden's F9F Panther is shot down, and Rooney's helicopter is shot down trying to rescue him.

    Thanks Dennis.

    Brubaker and Mike Forney.

    Earl Holliman, Nestor

In the book Forney would go down into the cat room and stand behind the rail that the piston rode on. Inches behind. He would see if flinched when the piston came flying down the rail.

Great book, I should have remembered the line from the movie. Even though it was a movie script I think the question rings true for the volunteers serving our country. God bless them
