(I think the following largely rings true; however, would it not also apply to successful and independent American men and women of all ethnic backgrounds?)

There is a great amount of interest in this year’s presidential elections, as everybody seems to recognize that our next president has to be a lot better than George Bush. The Democrats are riding high with two groundbreaking candidates — a woman and an African-American — while the conservative Republicans are in a quandary about their party’s nod to a quasi-liberal maverick, John McCain.

Each candidate is carefully pandering to a smorgasbord of special-interest groups, ranging from gay, lesbian and transgender people to children of illegal immigrants to working mothers to evangelical Christians.

There is one group no one has recognized, and it is the group that will decide the election: the Angry White Man. The Angry White Man comes from all economic backgrounds, from dirt-poor to filthy rich. He represents all geographic areas in America, from urban sophisticate to rural redneck, deep South to mountain West, left Coast to Eastern Seaboard.

His common traits are that he isn’t looking for anything from anyone — just the promise to be able to make his own way on a level playing field. In many cases, he is an independent businessman and employs several people. He pays more than his share of taxes and works hard.

The victimhood syndrome buzzwords — “disenfranchised,” “marginalized” and “voiceless” — don’t resonate with him. “Press ‘one’ for English” is a curse-word to him. He’s used to picking up the tab, whether it’s the company Christmas party, three sets of braces, three college educations or a beautiful wedding.

He believes the Constitution is to be interpreted literally, not as a “living document” open to the whims and vagaries of a panel of judges who have never worked an honest day in their lives.

The Angry White Man owns firearms, and he’s willing to pick up a gun to defend his home and his country. He is willing to lay down his life to defend the freedom and safety of others, and the thought of killing someone who needs killing really doesn’t bother him.

The Angry White Man is not a metrosexual, a homosexual or a victim. Nobody like him drowned in Hurricane Katrina — he got his people together and got the hell out, then went back in to rescue those too helpless and stupid to help themselves, often as a police officer, a National Guard soldier or a volunteer firefighter.

His last name and religion don’t matter. His background might be Italian, English, Polish, German, Slavic, Irish, or Russian, and he might have Cherokee, Mexican, or Puerto Rican mixed in, but he considers himself a white American.

He’s a man’s man, the kind of guy who likes to play poker, watch football, hunt white-tailed deer, call turkeys, play golf, spend a few bucks at a strip club once in a blue moon, change his own oil and build things. He coaches baseball, soccer and football teams and doesn’t ask for a penny. He’s the kind of guy who can put an addition on his house with a couple of friends, drill an oil well, weld a new bumper for his truck, design a factory and publish books. He can fill a train with 100,000 tons of coal and get it to the power plant on time so that you keep the lights on and never know what it took to flip that light switch.

Women either love him or hate him, but they know he’s a man, not a dishrag. If they’re looking for someone to walk all over, they’ve got the wrong guy. He stands up straight, opens doors for women and says “Yes, sir” and “No, ma’am.”

He might be a Republican and he might be a Democrat; he might be a Libertarian or a Green. He knows that his wife is more emotional than rational, and he guides the family in a rational manner.

He’s not a racist, but he is annoyed and disappointed when people of certain backgrounds exhibit behavior that typifies the worst stereotypes of their race. He’s willing to give everybody a fair chance if they work hard, play by the rules and learn English.

Most important, the Angry White Man is pissed off. When his job site becomes flooded with illegal workers who don’t pay taxes and his wages drop like a stone, he gets righteously angry. When his job gets shipped overseas, and he has to speak to some incomprehensible idiot in India for tech support, he simmers. When Al Sharpton comes on TV, leading some rally for reparations for slavery or some such nonsense, he bites his tongue and he remembers. When a child gets charged with carrying a concealed weapon for mistakenly bringing a penknife to school, he takes note of who the local idiots are in education and law enforcement.

He also votes, and the Angry White Man loathes Hillary Clinton. Her voice reminds him of a shovel scraping a rock. He recoils at the mere sight of her on television. Her very image disgusts him, and he cannot fathom why anyone would want her as their leader. It’s not that she is a woman. It’s that she is who she is. It’s the liberal victim groups she panders to, the “poor me” attitude that she represents, her inability to give a straight answer to an honest question, his tax dollars that she wants to give to people who refuse to do anything for themselves.

There are many millions of Angry White Men. Four million Angry White Men are members of the National Rifle Association, and all of them will vote against Hillary Clinton, just as the great majority of them voted for George Bush.

He hopes that she will be the Democratic nominee for president in 2008, and he will make sure that she gets beaten like a drum.

Yeah, Angry White Man does sum me up fairly well. However, I consider myself to be a South Park Republican. Our slogan is "I hate the Republicans, but I really f***ing hate the Democrats."

    Hi,

I am the original poster in this thread. I don't agree with it entirely. My main disagreement is that I feel that the successful and hard working middle class in this country feels disenfranchised to too large a degree, a middle class made up of Americans of all colors, genders, and walks of life. I am concerned that both parties don't seem to address core issues such as productivity and financial security for all who work hard. By productivity, I feel that if a country is to remain financially successful, it must produce "big stuff" such as cars, steel, large machinery, ships, and the like. I'd guess a country cannot maintain a strong currency if it only develops technology and information, but does not produce that which technology and information can allow. I am concerned that jobs that are exported benefit the few and wealthy stockholders. I am concerned that our troops appear to be not as well supported as they can be in the field (due to poor equipment dispersal that I've read about, poor management of funding, etc.) and after they return via help getting back into education and the economy. I am concerned that we have not developed a rational, strong, and humane way to protect against illegal immigrants and to deal with illegal immigrants that are here and cause us harm and resources. Illegal immigrants in our penal system really gives me the red a** and those individuals ought to be sent home immediately. I am concerned that both the Democrats and Republicans get caught up in emotional, but what I call non-core issues such as the second amendment (one way or another), abortion rights, and the seperation of church and state. These are important issues to be sure, but I thought these freedoms and outcomes were laid to rest years ago and we must move on to making our country continue to be the most free, productive, humane, and secure. I am tired of what I call "cheap votes" obtained by pandering with emotional issues, i.e., the third rails of politics, guns, religion, abortion, and, to a degree, stem cell research. I am concerned that our congress votes very strongly along political party lines and does not work together as effectively as it could. Too much of the agenda of those in that august institution seems to have the primary objective of being reelected first and bettering our country second.

But I kid my friends: "The Republicans would shoot me and the Democrats would have me locked up for being crazy!!"

But please, let me continue to engage in the shooting sports before I'm run out as a heretic!! Thanks for indulging this rant, or at least not "yelling" or cursing me.

Although I come here mostly to read topics about the sport of trapshooting, I have to give your post a HUGE "two thumbs up" ; probably the best-written piece I have ever seen to portray my personal attitude about the degredation of our political system and its elected officials.

As an (admitted) Angry White Man, this post reiterates and reinforces my disgust towards a society that would cater to every special interest group -- with little or no regard for the class of American who they expect to CONTINUALLY foot the bill, or suffer the consequence for.

I've maintained that the conservative ; hard-working ; church-going ; gun-owning segment of the American population was responsible for the 11th-hour success of the Bush campaign in 2004 -- when even I had conceded defeat to Kerry's carefully contractd plan of special interest wooing.

The truly sad fact is that we are losing our foothold in ever-increasing numbers. The feminization (my term) of the workforce, school system and media has produced almost TWO generations of overly-sensitive bleeding hearts ; a new culture who fails to see the benefit of consequence for action. Adding to this dilemma is what appears to be an increasing apathy, with many taking a "what can you do about it?" attitude.

Already - this country has produced and groomed more than its share of what I call "duck ponds". I use this moniker to describe the minority and special interest entitlement mentalities. They are akin to flocks of ducks or geese on a pond. So long as you continue to "feed" them, they will never leave the pond.

My only hope is that the Angry White Man will continue to stand tall, and to defend and fight for what is right. Where I work, I am constantly being given the label of "negative thinker" or "complainer". These labels are (of course) those of employees who do as little as possible and take as much as they can.

Kudos for the great post, sako2115. I will forward it to others who share the philosophy and moral ethic that built this nation.

Deckart, I don't think hate is the right word describing my feelings for Hillary, but complete lack of respect comes to mind. She does not ever miss a chance to pander to whatever group she is addressing and I guess the thing that makes me want to defeat her AND Obama is they both are socialists through and through and cannot promise enough of your and my tax dollars being spent to buy their votes. I am not a socialist and I think that socialism will bring an end to this once great nation. It almost makes me sick to see the media interviewing on the streets people demanding that the government give me this or give me that and what about "healthcare" like it is a God given right. Also we pay taxes to the government for our kids education and its been been falling off a cliff for 50 years. It proves to me that the government is more inept at doing things than any private entity, but for a lot of voting slackers in this society who do not want to contribute, it is the easiest way. We, as a society need to take care of the people who are not ABLE to take care of themselves, but as for the slackers and criminals they can wither away to where ever folks like that go when they don't get any government help. My guess is that they would actually work at least enough to keep from starving if they didn't get help.

By the way, there are a few Angry White Females too. We agree with these stated view points, are female AND LOGICAL! (Imagine that, a logical female - a true rarity.) Unfortunately there are too few women who seem to think this way. Gives us a bad name..... Makes me sick....
