I have been watching Time Warners local news (YNN) in the Rochester NY area. Senator Schumer is trying to get major retailers to stop seling "assault style rifles" until Congress can come up with more laws to "stop gun violence". The absolute dumbest thing he said was that he could go to Wal-Mart and buy 10 assault rifles and then go sell them to someone else. He then said the "someone elses" would not have background checks. He fails to realize that he would be guilty of "Straw purchase/sales". This is how these A-holes try to get their point accross. His phone # is 585-263-5866. Larry Evans

Larry...Schumer has been anti-gun ever since I heard of him. They are like race horses with blinders...they only see their agenda straight ahead. They will not listen to facts like Chicago with the toughest gun laws has the most homicides. Just doesn't work. Liberals refuse to listen to logic. But don't stop trying..I won't. ed

Forgot this...I've heard for some time that Schumer has a pistol permit. Dont know for sure if its true. But if information is found to be true the way to defend is to attack. Ask him why he needs one. Why would he deny us the same privelege? Whats the capacity of his magazines. Put him on the defensive. Make him look like a hypocrite. Cast doubt on his motives. Is it strictly for votes? ed

It gets even worse Larry... I just read this about Cuomo's tentative agreement... "The tentative agreement would further restrict New York's ban on assault weapons and limit the size of magazines to seven bullets, rather than the current 10." Seven bullets! Really! You have got to be kidding! It's time to move!

Buying rifles from a dealer and later reselling them sounds like a perfectly legit private sale, not a straw purchase.

EVERYONE has been sold out of ARs for weeks. That's another reason chuck u is so stupid. Where is he going to buy those guns for his "straw" purchases? He's just trying to scare people to believe in his socialist/commie pinko agenda. Maybe the Gannett co can check to see if he has a pistol permit.

Chuck Schumer is not stuped. He is cunning like obama, just not as good an actor. Do not underestimate this enemy. He loses no opportunity to get in front of a tv camera. ed

What is the definition of a "Straw Purchase"?????

Well this is the one I keep getting.

"A straw purchase or nominee purchase is any purchase wherein an agent agrees to acquire a good or service for someone who is unable or unwilling to purchase the good or service himself. Straw purchases are legal except in cases where the ultimate receiver of goods or services uses those goods or services in the commission of a crime with the prior knowledge of the straw purchaser."

"Straw purchases can be illegal in the United States when made at a federally licensed firearm dealership. If the straw purchaser of the firearm lies about the identity of the ultimate possessor of the gun, he can be charged with making false statements on a federal Firearms Transaction Record. If a firearm is purchased as a gift, the purchaser must indicate the intended recipient on the transaction record. Straw purchases of used guns are not illegal, unless the gun is used in a crime with the prior knowledge of the straw purchaser."

From what I am seeing here is there must be an illegal intend or outcome before what you are discribing is a "Straw Purchase"

What Schumer is talking about is a reason for having an FFL involved in the private sale of firearms. Changing that would require a gun registration list that the giverment can go to for confiscation and a Giverment record of who has guns and who doesn't. Personally I would rather allow "Straw Purchases"
