    Zuzax and all:

Before I start, understand this is NOT a union bashing post. I'm simply sharing statements of fact.

    ___________

Individuals always decide who and what they support. People familiar with this specific decision may conclude the responsible persons are 'good guys' for defending collective bargaining rights. OTOH, they may not.

    Here's what I know...

    - Union membership and bargaining unit representation is the lowest it has been since the early days of the U.S. labor movement.

    - The absolute majority of bargaining unit workers are public sector employees like Midalake on taxpayer funded payrolls.

    - The Service Employees International Union (SEIU), another non-traditional union representing low skill/entry level/minimum wage jobs, is the newest and LARGEST of the non-public unions.

As an aside, the SEIU was founded at the same time and by the same individuals that founded the overtly socialist and widely discredited Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, aka ACORN. They are two sides of the same socialist coin.

    - Traditional crafts and industrial unions were the origin and backbone of the U.S. labor movement. Today they are an absolute MINORITY and well on their way to insignificance.

    - I've sent line and forestry** crews to a gaggle of states - usually after major ice storms or hurricanes including Katrina. Never once in 30 years did a a homeowner sitting in the dark ever ask to see the union cards of my crews working to restore power to their homes.

    sissy

** Most folks don't understand falling trees and limbs are a primary cause of storm related power outages. Those trees and limbs must often be cleared before power can be restored. Line crews can do that work but when millions of customers are sitting in the dark, you want linemen working on power lines NOT duncing around with trees and brush.

So one guy, Derrick Moore, was told this, and that is what this whole story has evolved into. Can you say RHETORIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So the first question out of the "Workers" mouths when they see a crew approaching to ask what they can do to assist is, "Are you a union contractor?" I say BS! Where do you see that they where turned away from "NYC"?

    Do you see any quotes?

Crews from Decatur Utilities headed up there this week, but Derrick Moore, one of the Decatur workers, said they were told by crews in New Jersey that they can't do any work there since they're not union employees.

"The hurricane-ravaged east coast has been receiving north Alabama help, but crews learned they'll be doing work in Long Island, New York instead of in New Jersey."

OMG no! He should have cancelled the Marathon! 40,000 people coming in can't be spending that much money in the city anyways!

Any idea of how many? Any links?

The generators are being used to power the media tent, and could be used to power up gas stations (so those without power could buy gas for their own generators).

Bloombergs quote, "It’s a great event for New York, and I think for those who were lost, you’ve got to believe they would want us to have an economy and have a city go on for those that they left behind.”"

Shameful ..people are in misery up there, not to mention danger for those with health issues who need power to support home medical equipment..

You have to look at the big picture. Not from your political point of view.

How many more Generators will they be able to buy from the influx of income to the city, caused by running the Marathon?

Money is not the problem. It's resources' and the diversion of resources that should be a concern to all.

Yeah right, the money from the Marathon will go towards stuff to help the people.

There will also be a diversion of police, fire, medical and city maintenance to support that marathon.

Those people and resources should be used elsewhere for the recovery.

Marxist union thugs don't help people, only themselves. Kindness comes from those of us that are anti-union. Our time and money donated.... union thugs are only there to get their share of the money.

Generators should give power to people — not marathon

As hundreds of thousands of Big Apple residents suffer in homes left without power by Hurricane Sandy, two massive generators are being run 24/7 in Central Park — to juice a media tent for Sunday’s New York City Marathon.

And a third “backup” unit sits idle, in case one of the generators fails.

The three diesel-powered generators crank out 800 kilowatts — enough to power 400 homes in ravaged areas like Staten Island, the Rockaways and downtown Manhattan.

    Maltzahn,

Just because a worker is in the union he is a thug???

How does being in a union make you a thug?? Statements like that really show your ignorance about the average union man.

Zuzax..........I read your source....Where does it say anything about NEW YORK CITY.....the article is about NEW JERSEY......I guess only stupid people post remarks with out reading their own source of information....lol

Also down the article a ways is says it wasn't sure who said they couldn't work...

"At this stage, it is not clear who is alleged to have turned the crew away and the company that employs the affected workers has denied the claim. IBEW local leaders in New Jersey have reiterated what has been the long standing record of our union –in times of crisis all help is welcome and we pull together with everyone to meet the needs of the public. We have communicated this to the office of New Jersey Governor Christie as well," said IBEW President Ed Hill.

Plus Huntsville utilities had no problems going to work.....

Can't you understand the English language, written or spoken...

You should have your ass thrown off the site just for this remark as there are women and children on the site.......Let the union bastards freeze in the dark!

Funny how Iowa crews had no problems....
