I am very saddened by this news. Richard was a great friend to many and I was privileged to know him and shoot with him since I started trapshooting in year 2000. Many things I could share, but there is not enough space on the server. Richard took up trapshooting as a hobby after he broke his back while engaged in his first hobby – bull riding. He was extremely well regarded in the horse world (he was a master farrier).

Back when he was on the racing circuit, Rich was the man they called whenever John Henry came east to race (if you don't know anything of horse racing history, John Henry was a little gelding who beat them all and more than once – still listed as one of the top money winners of all time even though he raced in the late 70s and early 80s)

If you ever saw the Christmas movie Elf, there was a scene where the mounted cops chased Santa’s sleigh in Central Park. Rich was in charge of the horses and riders for that shot. He recruited the riders out of Cow Town (southern NJ).

My heart goes out to his wife, children and grandchildren. His friends and fellow shooters Harry, Rich, Gene, Jere, Ken, and Gary among others. I hope they have horses and bulls in heaven.

You won't meet people like Richard Bruns on every corner and if you are lucky enough to have a friend like him, treasure that friendship.

I read the title of this post in disbelief. This is a real shock. I have shot with Rich many times in the past. We always seemed to end up on the same HCP squad at the state shoots. A real gentleman and a pleasure to shoot with. Very sorry to hear he is no longer with us.

I am also saddened by the passing of Brother Rich. You won't find a more upright man and Mason, I'm proud to say he was my Brother.

There will be a memorial service for Rich at Quinton Sportsmens Club on Saturday October 9 at 11:00am with a reception following.

The news of Richie's passing saddens me. I did not know him well but would frequently say hello regardless. He seemed to attend every shoot that was held in South Jersey. His passing makes me reflect upon our sport and the great friends that trapshooting helps create. I am thankful for the friends I have made and the time that i share shooting with both my brother and father. Rest in peace Richie. al hrosik
