1. Is there a magazine the has upcoming shoots and scores listed in it? Or better yet, what is the most popular Trap magazine? I love on line but I want to read a good trap mag too.
2. So my little ATA card has shoot place, how many you broke and avg....
I assume that is a running average?
And it has "class" .... but I look on ATA site and its not easy to tell what class I am in or I shot in. Can you explain how I determine my class I shot in ?
You're looking for trap and field magazine. Has shoot results, upcoming shoots and some good articles.
Yes your average is a running average. Simply add up targets actually broken and divide by how many hundred you've shot. Class is determined by the person classifying at the shoot you attend.
"Trap & Field" and "Trapshooting USA" are the two best trap magazines. T&F lists shoot dates and shoot results as well as a few good articles and news from the various State Delegates.
Trapshooting USA has awesome articles and interviews with the top shooters.
I decided to look at the link to see what I might learn. I learned that the W/T column is only for CLASS wins and ties unless my score equals or exceeds that of the winner of my class. So much for category wins.
I have kept all of my average cards and none of the cards are identical to that pictured in the pdf form. The form shows a section for classification at "larger" shoots. Mine has only sections for prior year averages. No place to add any class changes; only the handicap punches along the top edge. Based on the image in the form, the card represents the form used around 2001. Ok, I can work with it.
I find the trapshooters.com scoring database to be an excellent aid in keeping up with my averages. Much better than messing with a calculator.
READ THE RULE BOOK, TWICE! It's your friend. Seek help at the club. Don't be shy, oldtimers are, usually, happy to help, if asked, but reluctant to offer help, not wanting to interfere.
Hope I am not hijacking a thread but I am wanting to join the ATA and start shooting registered targets. When I go to their website I have to click an option of year. Want my membership to start this Sept 1st so would I click the year 2012 or 2013? Was going to wait till after Sept. to join and see if the option for 2012 went away.
We are currently in Target Year 2012. It ends on August 31st.
If you don't want to shoot until September 1st, you would want to join for Target Year 2013.
Keep in mind that when a tournament ends determines which year it is in, not when it begins.
For example, this year the Heartland Grand starts on August 28th and ends on September 3rd. All of those targets will be registered in TY2013. So if you were to go to the Heartland Grand you would join the ATA on August 28th, but it would be for TY2013.
Once again I hope I didn't hijack skeet100's thread but thanks for the answers. Will probably just go to the first shoot in Ft. Worth in Sept and join there. Should be a lot of fun. Lots of good info on the original post also.
Singles and doubles averages are a running average. They are kept in three didgets. For example if you have a 96 94 96 94 your average would say .950 Handicap scores are not averaged. They are simply entered. As those stated above your "class" is determined by shoot mgt. Your Handicap yardage is stated on your card. Bear in might you may be put in pentalty class or yardage if you do not have a certain number of targets. This should be listed in the shoot program as to what they are. Wecome and good luck. The guys on here may spar at each other but I think you will find they are all happy to help a new shooter. Get a current rule book(the ATA can provide one on request),and read it as much as you can. Again welcome and good shooting!
