Typical Dem. Reminds me of Howell Heflin, the one-time senator from Alabama. He used to be the last one in, just so he could get constituents to believe he really thought things out.

I guess the price was right.

    Best,
    Dennis

Most of the world think the American people are stupid.

    The last election proved it.

Anyone suprised by Nelson's vote is painfully naive. His support was never a question. His vote was a forgone conclusion from the get go.

The only question was how much pork Nelson could get for his vote. Playing hard to get (with Reid and Obambi) was merely a negotiating strategy.

Libs always have a price. Its wisdom, ethics, and decency they lack.

Well said. He played holdout on his last vote too, but we all knew how he was going to vote.

The following is a letter written to Nelson from a doctor in the same state as the senator. (From Michelle Malkins site)

    Hello Michelle:

I’m a family practice doctor in Nebraska. I sent the following (angry,I admit) letter to Senator Nelson. I urge your readers (from Nebraska and elsewhere) to do likewise, in their own words!

    Dear Senator Nelson:

I send this message under “Tort Reform” because the current monstrosity you have pledged your support to says nothing whatsoever about Tort Reform. You have sold the physicians of Nebraska for zilch (zilch for us, but beaucoup federal bucks for you and the liberal partisans in this state). As a family practice physician in Small Town, Nebraska, I was counting on you to be the lone voice of Democratic sanity on this issue, but you sold me out.

I will dedicate every spare minute of my time and every spare dollar I have to defeating you, should you run for re-election. The long hours I spent on my medical education and the long hours I spend treating my patients are nothing but chump change to you and your Democrat colleagues in Washington. I especially can’t wait for your equivocation and milquetoast evasion when your “compromises” on the abortion language in the bill are silently erased or quietly (on-little-legislative-cat’s-feet) eviscerated in the House/Senate give-and-take. Go on: Bet me that you won’t wuss-out on this issue!

I know you won’t give two-seconds to this letter, but I had to write it. I’m a primary care doctor in YOUR state, and you sold me out. I didn’t slog through 4 years of college and 4 years of medical school and 3 years of residency just to have you hand my career and my patient/doctor relationships over to government lifers. Your gutless acquiescence to Obama and Harry Reid and ‘Nanny’ Pelosi will NOT be forgotten.

Thank you, Ben, for forcing doctors like me to earn less than the repairmen who fix our appliances. Case in point: We recently had our dishwasher fixed. The repairman who came to our house charged $65 just to come and ‘diagnose’ the problem, then charged another $180 to ‘fix’ the problem. You and your fellow lawmakers have fixed MY going rate (Medicare) at $35 per-visit. Thank you for securing such a ‘lucrative’ rate for me! Thank you so much for making me–someone with 8 years of education!–make less than a mechanic or appliance repair technichian. And thanks especially for falling in line with Obama and the rest of the Democrats to make such a socialist system permanent.

You have my disgust and disdain forever, you socialist-coddling coward.

    Sincerely,

    Becky F. Hollibaugh, D.O.

Apples and oranges to compare the appliance repair person to the doctor. They probably average five customers a day because they have to take their shop to the customer. How many people can walk into a clinic in one day? I do trouble-shooting and repairs in the water trades. Ron

Sorry Doc, but just how many of those "visits" do you schedule for the hour that you are comparing with the repairman's hour.....10?, 15?.

    A doctor seeing 10 patients per hour?? 60 minutes / 10 patients = 6 minutes per visit??

    60 /15 = 4 minutes per visit.

Maybe to be more realistic...15 minutes per vist would equal $145 per hour. This doesn't include any research needing done or updating patient charts, hell, even from walking exam room to exam room.

Now, 8 yrs of schooling, hundreds of thousands of dollars of paying for this education vs a couple of yrs of trade school at a cost of maybe 10 grand? After graduating trade school, you can form your own business and start making money @ $65 per hour plus. A future doctor has just begun their education..

I'm not bashing the trades, I am one. And, I wish more HS graduates would move this direction, instead of thinking a college degree will start them at 50 G's a year.

I believe the author of the letter was fair in her comparison, especially taking in the fact the amount of liability ins they need to have. How much do you pay?

We get it but there is an implied false premise. Our point is the skilled trades are not overpaid. It is quite possible the doctors might be underpaid but there is not a direct correlation in how we do business. In regard to business liability insurance, I pay about 2.5% of gross for mine. I have no clue as to what doctors pay. Ron

Each and every politician we have sent to office nationally, is there for themselves, NOT FOR US!!!!! Dems, Reps are all included. They just "rattle their collective sabers", blame the other side, give themselves more and more, and laugh with each other about how much we will take in the left - vs - right confusion!! Liberals are bad! NO, the conservatives are bad!

I call "BULL$hit" on the whole performance. These SOB's are not representing me or you - PERIOD. Only the special interests are being catered to. MONEY MONEY MONEY is the new duty, honor and ethic.

I will never again vote for an incumbent, 2nd generation politician, or anyone who wants to give something for nothing. Witness what we are seeing now in politics. The Greatest Generation gave us the Greatest middle class and this has and is being gently Fu*#ed away because it gave Joe Camel to much. The American Dream was within the reach of anyone who wanted to go and work for it. A normal job would provide a decent living and a decent retirement and decent health care. Outsourcing that work NOW is better for the bottom line of business.

I think that we have lived in the best of times and will probably die in the worst (hope not) of times.........merlyn

Here is some info about doctors salaries and what they pay. It appears to be much more than 2.5%.

    http://mdsalaries.blogspot.com/2005/10/obstetrician-gynecologist-salaries.html

(Going a little off topic)Going back up to the doctors letter, I wish I could make what the plumber is making(they deserve every cent working on backed-up toilets). I do not charge for the half hour on the phone working through a shooters problem, that he could probably correct without sending the gun to me. My hourly rate does not include the half hour spent on every gun sent to my shop...unpackaging, inspecting, writing up the work order, entering the gun into the FFL book, a follow up call to the customer, repackaging, shipping label, disposition of the gun from the FFL book. Could I charge $35 as a "trip charge"...not!

Hey, am I griping..no, I love my job, and working for myself and my family. If my family is happy, I'm happy.

Back in the 80's, a GP told me that his liability insurance was a bit over 300,00/year. That was a thousand dollars a day back then before being a liberal judge was the "in" thing to be. Does anyone besides me think that this form of shit hitting the fan was being formulated back then and now we may have a choice of our healthcare being decided by; 1. A greedy politician who I can vote for or against, OR 2. A greedy chairman of the board of directors of a company of which I have absolutely no say, and my care may cost him some well-deserved bonus???? More food for thought.......merlyn
