Thanks Oregunner. That what I was looking for. With the high price of primers, I was looking for a substitute.

Rio's are the equivalant to the Federal 209P, their hottest primer. I use them in Rio, Federal, and Winchester Universal cases and they work just fine. One caveat...the Rio's are the largest primer out there. Once you use them you can't go back, as everything, even Fiocchi's, fall out of the primer pocket. That having been said, I've had no ignition problems over thousands of shells and the price ($22.95/thousand) will make you smile!

    I bought 25,000 Rios about 6-7 years ago for $78 a sleeve.

Anyone use Nobel Sport 209/686 primers ? I have only used Winchesters but came across 5m of these at a good price. Any data out there that shows a substitute of Nobel & Winchesters ?

I don't see it on the Hodgdon website but on page 35 of the 2008 powder book there is a note on primer substitution which reads "The Nobel Sport 209 primer may be safely substituted wherever the Winchester 209 primer is shown".
