What are your thoughts on this video that the news is trying to make such a big deal out of? The only reason it came out is because Obama repealed the DON'T ASK DON'T TELL law. If it wasn't for that no one would care about the video. I didn't see anything wrong with it. They were just having some fun and letting off some steam. Hell the XO was even kicked up to captain of the ship.

It's should be obvious, the man was a natural born Moral Officer and God forbid that he should lead the crew of an Aircraft carrier.

This is obviously a national security breach of the highest magnitude. I know this because the very righteous media has made it that. I think every boat commander should be investigated from his cap to his shorts to make sure that there is not a fiber in their body that would offend some fairy under their command. Since "In The Navy" has replaced "Anchors Away", we have to keep a close watch on all fronts(and backs).

Many of the men under his command have voiced that he is one the best commanders the Navy has. Yes, he is being targeted because of Don't ask, don't tell, and yes, he went a little overboard (no pun intended)with some of the videos spots, but he proved that he is a down to earth guy and not some pompus a-hole commander that thought his crap didn't stink.

He created some levity for his crew at a time when stress was high.

I like his style. He's a topgun pilot, and has a record of performance that is unquestionable. Look at some the past military leaders we've had. The radical ones were some of the best performers.

Wish I could see the whole tape!

I heard the tape was compiled from many different tapes. It was also taken out of context. These were not anti-gay rants, they were ship related...safety, water conservation (don't take long showers)....he was trying to get a point or message across to a group of mainly young men. He tried to make it funny so the crew would watch and LEARN. The media just pulled the most damming bits for their story.

The end result is the Navy has lost one of it's best loved commanders and a highly trained and experienced pilot. But, our media is happy now and one one of our best aircraft carriers is heading into action with a less experienced commander (I do wish him the best).

It is a sad day when the media can ruin a fine mans life for a crappy "news" story that is 5 years old. I think the Navy and the American people are the losers here.

    Nothing to do with DADT.

Anyone who believes it is, is frankly foolish in my opinion and not aware of Navy culture and standards.

It does have everything to do with maintaining professionalism, setting standards and the exercise of good judgment.

Many very gifted leaders have done stupid things that are inappropriate. The military does not tolerate shenanigans from its leaders.

It was 4 to 5 years ago that the video was made. One gal that was on board at that time was on TV. Why didn't this come up 3 years ago if it was so bad? I bet if we could see the entire video it would be very comparable to what we see on TV from the major networks at least once a week. My son was on attack submarines as a nucleaar operator and said this happening is a very good reason to keep women out of the submarine business. He said they come looking for "action" and when they get it pretend to be offended.

Captain Honors is a highly educated, highly trained, much experienced warrior. If our government believes that the very best of our warrior class should be removed from command because they might offend the delicate sensibilities of a very few of their subordinates then it is that government that needs to change. I fully understand that the military is subordinate to the civilian government, but the enforcement of the "politics of ideology" on the military by the civilian government weakens both institutions.

Is there any evidence that Captain Honors' "shenanigans" have been on-going - that they are a problem diminishing his current ability to command? Under the circumstances a reprimand would have sent a sufficient message to Honors and to other military commanders.

As a citizen and as a veteran of the US Army and of Viet Nam I believe that this "politically correct" decision to remove Captain Honors from his command impedes our ability to defend ourselves from our enemies.

Leave the antics at home or at the summer weekend backyard BBQ, not while on duty and in command.

Aprice- I am going to call BS on you here.

    Your post

The men under my command never had the time to make silly videos. You have to question the judgment of anyone spending their time on such foolishness, knowing the possibilities of having to justify it at a later date. I think he got what he deserved. "

What exactly was your "Command" ? I dont think you had a command. Claiming that is a federal felony Aprice so you might want to remove your post.

I will also say that anyone that doesnt think the resurfacing of this video and the change in dont ask dont tell arent related must still believe in the tooth fairy.

Finally there are some stiff necked commanders that spend their entire life worrying about covering their own butts and then there are just the careful ones with a sence of proportion and there are also the ones that arent afraid to interact with the troops in moments of levity, politically correct or not.

A price- remember this is a Federal Felony-

You havent named your unit- the one you were "Commander" of

It is obvious by your comments that you havent spent much if any time aboard ship.

    So enlighten us.

If you did make that up Aprice- let me tell you how this usally works- someone will just casually hear about your claim- and that person may be a veteran- or a veteran may hear about it second hand- some veterans are very sensitive about this stuff so they will begin sniffing around- and eventually turn this matter over to one of the the people that sniff out "stolen valor" claims. From there you can imagine where it goes.

But you can clear this all up by stating what unit you were the "Commander" of and what years.

    A price

    So many choices

    People are watching

I didnt say stolen valor act A price- there are other federal staututes, although that is one of them.

So did you just consult with someone about that act? Or just frantically search on the internet and become an expert?

Just name the unit you commanded and the years you were the commander- you worries will go away then.

Supplying details helps us to understand your position and validate your opinion.

We, after all, are all friends here arent we?

    Regards from Iowa

    Gene

PS you werent the one on here that was shot 19 times and was going to send me a picture of his purple heart are you?

The military has recently become so PC and deadly afraid lest anyone be offended. The Navy in particular since the Tail Hook stuff.

This is not the military (USAF) I served in during and shortly after Vietnam.

Serious work was done absolutely seriously, but we still had the opportunity to have fun in the fighter squadrons in which I served. So what if its a bit juvenile...how old do you think are most of those rank and file sailors? How old do you think those pilots, flight deck folks, munitions folks, etc are...and how old they will be if they die in action. And we want to make a big deal out of some comic relief offered by an XO on a cruise? Baloney.

I think the man was sacrificed to the press by a bunch of limp dick, no nothing, shoe clerks.

A price- we are still waiting to hear how the men in the unit that you commanded were held only to strict standards on everything

What unit was that and what years?

I'm with U.S.Retired Marine. The pressure to punish Honors came from politicians on certain Political Committees. Don't tell me the Navy didn't know about the tapes 3 years ago. Some a-hole libby politicians put pressure on the Navy to deal with it.

That crap did us a lot of good in Viet Nam too. Remember how that war was run?
