A personal ritual for me for 45 years of trapshooting, is being present for the Nation Anthem. I gaze at the flag with my hat over my heart, thank my dad and all veterans for their brave service to our great country, usually have a tear in my eye by the end and go away with a great feeling that lasts all day long. Been away from competitive shooting for 10-12 years. Now I'm back and the comments by Michelle haunt me during the playing of the National Anthem. "All this for a damned flag". To me, "All this" means showing appreciation for the sacrifice of many Americans with their lives...for our flag, for our country. "The bombs bursting in air" is a true anthem of defense of freedom and bravery, not some sign of un-needed violance.

Anyway, I'll eventually get over this but it sure has put a black footnote on what I cherish most...the American veteran, our flag, freedom and all our country stands for, including our National Anthem.

Maybe I should be thankful she has the right to voice (under her breath) how she feels...but it feels, to me, more like treason than any God or constitutionally given right.

A lot of us get the same feeling you have uncle miltie.

The National Anthem is a reverent moment for most of us.

Well, its our flag, darn it! To be fair, though, Urbanlegends.com says she probably didn't say those words, click on link above. I'm afraid that Michelle Obama's statement, after the first election win, that she had never before been proud of America, or words to that effect, have people watching to catch her in this sort of thing.

You cannot attend church services for twenty years with a jackass like the so called reverend jerimiah wright spewing anti american and anti white trash without something sticking. If you don't agree with the message or the church you change churches. Its that simple. A few days ago someone put a thread on her indicating Barack and Michelles liberal pro socialist and pro communist background. It would explain a lot about them. ed nichols

Not trying to build a case here. It's personal w/me. Snopes says photo is TRUE. Other photos of Obamas show them both w/hand over heart...but, for me, there's something in the wood pile and it doesn't smell very patriotic!

It does have a powerful meaning to most of us (and not just trapshooters). We play a version of the anthem sung and recorded by a well known shooter in the area and it is magnificent. Looking at the colors and listening to that song really reminds a guy of who we are and what it has taken to be there.

We had a group of young people come up to the club to shoot some trap as part of their HS Rodeo competition and when the anthem was played every single one of them removed their hat and stood facing the flag in silence for the duration of the song. So it isn't just old farts and vets that feel this way about our country and its anthem.

I can't imagine thinking something like 'all this just for a flag'.
