The Naperville Sportsman's Club is celebrating its 75th Anniversary this Summer..

The Sportsmen's League of Naperville and Elmhurst Illinois, became the Naperville Sportsman's Club in 1937... with help from a few community leaders, seed money and a favorable, long term, low cost lease of a city dump site allowed us to develop our community range in 1948... an old gas station restaurant was donated, jacked up and moved through town to the present site and became our clubhouse in 1956... our operation evolving into a real partnership with our City and Parks Department in 1989, becoming a public municipal range... an environmental lawsuit requiring an environmental permit and steel shot was a challenge in 2000...

Having an absolute banner year in 2012! Priceless...

Wishing all your operations continued success into the future!

    Jay,
Congratulations to you and the other fine members of the club as well as the many shooters who have enjoyed and continue to enjoy a few rounds of trap at the Naperville Sportsman's Club.

Jay - didn't know that Elmhurst was involved. What's the history on that? And where was the dump? Heh.

    Thanks for the good words...

    Joe:

You know that straight you ran last night... right there...

Due to the fact that my hairline only makes me appear more mature than I actually am, I cannot say for certain, how the original arrangement was created, but the Naperville Clarion and early issues of the Naperville Sun make reference of the Sportsmens League of Naperville and Elmhurst Illinois...

As I recall from my research on the Club's history, early club functions that were covered by the town papers included annual raising and release of 100s of pheasants over many area farms for hunting programs and it may be, that those hunting as well as trapshooting activities caused a partnership among various groups of shooting sportsmen... before it's formal organization and permanent relocation in the later 1940s.

Today's Club is a legacy of Naperville Gun Clubs that we know go back to the 1880s...

    Best regards all,

    Jay

Celebrated 75 years on Sunday 9/16...

All told about 200 folks out... we had hotdogs and bottled water for everyone... stoked the "Sportsman's Grill" with some traditional game offering marinated bites of pheasant, duck and moose...

    Looking to 100...

    Best regards all,

    Jay
