I know you all will call this person an idiot, but what he says is proving exactly what I and dmarbell have stated in the past threads about taxes. The highest wage earning people do not pay the rates of taxes that are assigned. It is kind of like the tax breaks given to the oil companies, when there profits where in the tens of billions of dollars. They went before congress and said they did not need those tax breaks. Of course they where never repealed, because it was part of the tax cut bill. Now, those where extended with the extention passage last year. What I do not understand is these people are saying take this money. We want to give back to this country because of the opportunity this country has given them for there fortunes. Which was part of the Presidents plan to cut more spending, in tandom with the tax increases to these people, and it was rejected. What is really happening here is the middle class taxes either go to the rich (tax cuts) or they go to the poor. The money is not staying, or going back into our (middle class) pockets, either way. Lets see what swarm, the swatting of this beehive creates.

Oil companies are always getting beat up for making huge profits, ever check what the percentage of profit they make? Yes the amount of profit in dollars is huge but as a percentage of sales it's not. It takes a huge amount of money to run an oil company. Would you rather see oil companies lose money and go out of business? Ever think about what that would do to the country? What would happen if our military ran out of fuel? We need the oil companies, it's ludicrous to think we don't.

"In 2010, ExxonMobil made less than 8 cents for every dollar of revenue from all of our businesses around the world. "

And a lot of that profit goes to the way of stock holders in dividends, including those whose 401K, pardon me, their 200-1/2k retirement funds.

I am sick and tired of warren buffet shooting his mouth off about how government should increase taxes on the rich, like himself

Hey Warren, why don't you write the IRS a check for a half a billion. Maybe you will feel better.

So, what you are saying, is even though the oil companies are saying they are making so much money they do not now what to do with it, and actually feel guilty about it, we should not listen to them because they do not have that big of a margin on there percentage of profits. I know I should not pick on the poor oil companies, but WTF are you talking about??????????????? They are the ones that said they do not need the tax breaks, not me!! What the hell does margin percentage have to do with what I am stating in this tread? Nevermind, I do not need an explaination. The only reason a oil company should fail is if this world runs out of oil. End of story. Let me guess, you are in the oil business, and live in Texas? Why in the world would the top oil executives go in front of congress and say they do not need the tax breaks because they are plenty profitable, if they are about to go out of business? Does that make sense? Please start another thread captioned with "Poor Oil Companies" as this really has nothing to do with this original thread posting.

Any person rich or not can donate any amount to the Treasury. If they want their taxes raised they are free to raise them anytime with a donation to the Treasury of The United States...Bill

I got a better idea, end all tax deductions (breaks) and stop the damn social engineering they cause.

Any company that cannot compete does not need to stay in business.

Stl Flyn......The oil exec's I saw being interviewed on TV stated if the tax breaks were taken away they would raise prices sky high and pretty much dared congress to try and do something about it.

What so many FAIL to see is that corporations DO NOT pay taxes, per se,,,,their taxes are paid by their customers,,,,so let's go after ALL those profits because they have to be bad,,,,So as the CEO of Major Oil,,,,I need $X of income to pay for all my expenses, dividends, R&D etc.,,,,

Now to get these extra taxes I either increase revenue or reduce expenses,,,,if I cannot increase revenue as my prices are as high the market will pay,,,,so I must reduce expenses,,,,one of these would be to reduce payroll,,,,we may want to look past the immediate to the future and the real ramifications....

Here we go, another brillant post from somebody blaming the producers and the people whom work and pay the bills for not paying enough. Now who is greedy?

Yes Exxon made 30 billion last year. Did you know 2/3 of their income comes from overseas? They should be thanked for bringing home money to the USA, but no they are cursed. And they supply a product that we use and makes our lifes better.

StlFlyn why don't you outfox or outsmart those miserable sob oil companies and not us any of their products. Ride a bike, don't use electricity or chemicals, just say no, that will show em. Better yet why don't you, Pelosi, Reid, and Ojackass start your own oil company? You guys got the political connections maybe you can get a claim to do some exploration on the North Slope of Alaska. I'm sure Pelosi would be happy to man a drill when it is -50 below outside, and do it and not expect to make a profit of 8 cents on the dollar. Put Reid and Ojackass out in the Gulf on a platform you and they designed in Hurracaine season. Do it all for nothing, just to be good citizens.

What grats me Flyn is you don't seem to get upset about the profits your beloved government takes from it's citizens. The US budget for year 2011 is 3.8 Trillion dollars with 2.2 Trillion in revenue (taxes) and another 1.6T spent of borrowed money.

Do you know how much 1 Trillion is? 1 Trillion is 1,000 Billion, or 1 Million, Million, and the government is doing that times 3.8. just this year. And what product do you receive in return?

Your damn government makes more on a gallon of gasoline in taxes than an oil company ever dreamed about. Ojackass, Pelosi, Reid couldn't find oil on a dipstick, because that trio wouldn't be able to find the dipstick in the first place.

Apple Computer made more than the oil companies. Why isn't anyone going after them?

Well, gee. we need a demon. "Oil company profits". "Corporate Jet Owners"

"overpaid CEO's" and on and on till they get the message that Liberals are the good guys.

Too bad it only works on really dumb people.

So those evil oil companies are playing by the rules our government set up and you somehow think you are entitled to their profit? You just explained socialism and you luckily are free to move to countries that have that failed system in place. If you need to know which ones simple look around the world for poverty and uprisings on a daily basis. Now go ahead and jump on that plane.

Again, what all of you failed to read or chose to ignore before you jumped on the political BS wagon is that the oil companies said to take back those tax breaks. They did not need them as they were very profitable. THOSE ARE THE WORDS OF THE OIL EXECUTIVES in front of congress, when gas prices soared the first time, and they where brought to capitol hill for the investigation into those high prices. I DID NOT SAY TAKE IT FROM THOSE RICH BASTARDS!. THEY OFFERED! Right away the ignorance of the critic has to come out, and you have to go on your typical political rants. Read the GD post people! They offered the money back, it was not being taken from them by YOUR beloved government. Typical political BS talk. Wait, everything political is BS. I forget sometimes. But hell, I don't remember when people became more irritating to me than mosquitoes either.
