model 12 with patent dates/years engraved

    I picked up a model 12 that was made in 1927 and has patent dates/years on barrel on chamber end,is this common?

    Mine is from 1929 and it has the patent dates on the barrle as well.

    I'm too lazy to dig out the books and look up the exact dates, but for a short while, Winchester stamped the patent dates on the barrel at the chamber end. I think I read that when the patent's expired they removed the dates.
