If that would happen on the first shot in a doubles event and the first bird was missed, could it be called a failure to fire on the second shot and the pair shot over?

This happened on the Skeet fields at the Dollar on Saturday. The bottom chamber let loose and the top barrel went up and back into the parking lot. With the minor injury to the shooter and the major damage to the gun clearly some sort of miracle occurred. I put the photo on web site to illustrate what can but not very often does happen when a shotgun is fired. After all this happened, the shooter came in and wanted to get a price on a new gun and was very relaxed about everything. Several people at the Dollar suggested to him that this was his day to play the Florida Lottery.

Pat, simply put and quoted from rule book, " When the first target of a Doubles pair is fired at and missed and that target would be scored "LOST," there shall be no allowable failure to fire at the second target." AKA the "Boggs Rule."

    Lost pair!
