I'm moving to Michigan this summer, Cheboygan to be exact, originally from Texas but right now I'm in Oregon. Does anyone have any advice about places to shoot (shotgun and rifle) in the area? I have my CCL in Tx. is it any good up there?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jack

The 6-month residency requirement for CCW is waived.

I will be a resident the day that I move there so I won't need to worry about the 6 month mess.

Residency means that you would normally have to physically live there for six months before you could apply, unless you have a CC permit from another state.

Michigan Trapshooting Assn. has a cool little book that lists registered shoots and the gun clubs, with address and phone #.

I already have a CC permit from my home state of record.

Mapper: I will look into that.

Thanks for you help so far.

Wait a minute....someone is moving to Michigan? That's weird. Cheboygan is nice though. Lots of old Chicago money up there. You had better like snow and cold like you've never seen it before however. That lake effect stuff will be piled up several feet at times in December.

Duff, I will look into that website, Thanks

Tron, Yeah I've heard about that lake effect thing, I've already got my new snowblower purchased and ready for use, eventhough I hate the cold.

    Thanks guys,

    Jack

I hope you know that it's against the law to swear in front of women and children in the state of Michigan.

I'm not sure what's available in Cheyboygan, but Alpena, Charlavoix, Lewiston have SC. Alpena has two places for skeet & trap.
Gaylord has a nice skeet set-up, with night shooting.
    Rogers City has skeet too.
    Lots of rifle ranges around.

It should be against the law to swear in front of women and children in every state!

From what I've looked up and heard there isn't much shooting up in that area without having to drive out a ways.

Alpena looks pretty close I'll have to check into that place.

    Thanks everyone,

    Jack

Yes it is close to Pellston and I saw something about that record temp the other day. Man that seems too cold for a human to live in. If it were up to me I wouldn't move up there at all.

Cheboygan is about 90 minutes south of here. Not sure if they have a trap range, however I know they have an active archery club that competes year around and shoots indoors. They don't get much lake effect snow there either.

There is a gun club in Cheboygan, but due to "issues" no shooting there presently. Closest trap/skeet fields at the Renegade Ranch, closest ATA shoots at Grayling. Mik

    Mik,

Thanks for the info. Do you know why they are not shooting? I'll check into Renegade Ranch.

    Thanks,

Once he moves to Michigan he can then become a snowbird and go to Florida and shoot trap all winter.

    Don,

I'm still too young to be a snowbird, so I'll have to work all winter.
