There are a lot of clubs that have decided to no longer be affiliated, mostly for political reasons I suppose. There doesn't really seem to be any benifit these days, unless you are having really big events at your club, but even then, then MUCC want's too big a piece of the action so to speak.

We have discussed this issue at the last three meetings at Western Wayne County Conservation Club. It was decided to continue as a 100% participatory club, but the member would have the option of paying only $5, and getting the magazine via email, or paying $20, and getting the hard copy.

MUCC is in a great deal of financial trouble, and they're seeking ways to save money. One sure way is to eliminate mailing out the mag.

They've brought this on themselves in a way, though. We have several members who belong to multiple clubs. They were getting as many copies of the magazine as clubs to which they belong. MUCC isn't as diligent as they should be about the magazine copies.

They suffer from the same plight as a lot of gun/outdoor/hunting/fishing clubs: The membership is dropping as members age, and younger folks are using their entertainment dollars in other ways.

    Best,
    Dennis

If you really want to see why mucc is in trouble get your hands on a copy of their financial report and see how much money that they spend on stuff that has nothing to do with the outdoors.

Great points Gregg. I also believe that the late Sam Washington did a lot of irreversable damage to the relationships between club management and the MUCC. He was an incredibly great speaker....but, I feel was much more interested in Lansing politics than actual MUCC welfare. He sure did rub a lot folks that were dedicated to promoting the shooting sports the wrong way.
