Michael Diamond outgunned for bronze medal in men's trap final

AUSTRALIAN Michael Diamond is a shattered man after going from gold medal favourite to finishing fourth in the men's trap final.

In a shoot-off against Kuwait's Fehaid Aldeehani for the bronze medal, Diamond missed his fourth shot and was demoted from the podium spot.

Before the shoot-off, the two-time Olympic champion gave up a two shot lead when he missed five of his final 25 targets.

For the gold medal, Croatia's Giovanni Cernogoraz beat Italy's Massimo Fabbrizi in a shoot-off, 6-5.

Earlier, Diamond set a new Olympic record after beating the 124-from-125 mark he posted himself en route to his first gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

More than that, it equalled the world record first established by Italian Giovanni Pellielo, the three-time Olympic medallist, who shot a perfect 125-from-125 sequence in Cyprus in 1994.

Noticed no high Ribbed Brooklyn model guns in this final.

All were shooting Flat Ribbed Perazzi's

As an Aussie it was a long night !

Sat up to watch the final at 1 am local time.

We are absolutely gutted for him.. What more can you say.

Shoots a world record in qualification only to miss out on bronze in a shoot off.

I wouldn't,t think any more painful way to end the 4 years of work.

He still is the king though !
    Way to go MD !

You are a true sportsman and a great Aussie ambassador !
