I just set up a Mec 9000 hydraulic unit that a friend sold me. It was dormant for a while and the hydraulic cylinder is leaking at the bottom about a half ounce of oil per 500 reloads. Has anyone ever repaired one of these cylinders or am I better off sending the unit back to MEC? Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hi Flip,
I am fairly new to this forum. As far as a search are you referring to the list of advertisers or is there another search mechanism that I am not aware of. Thanks for the reply, it sounds like this guy can help me out.

I believe the gentleman that rebuilds them goes by "birddog1964". Post a question and he will probably see it.

I searched out some previous threads and it looks like the parts are available from MEC. Also doesn't seem to be a very difficult job to do yourself so I think I'll give it a go.

Mine leaks also. I have the old 761 Hustler. I just put a Fed 100 primer plastic sleeve upsidedown under the base beneath the ram to catch the oil. Fold a paper towel under the tray. Works great, add a little oil now & then. Too darn lazy to get it rebuilt.

Sorry RunGun but I am that anal retentive type that cannot stand anything leaking or squeaking. Maybe some day I'll be lucky enough to let it slide a bit as you do.

When you call MEC ask if the cylinder is the type that can be rebuilt, some are not.
