I have access to a friend's MEC Grabber. On the MEC website videos, it shows the capability to reload one shell at a time. This seems occasionally necessary, especially when starting and ending a run.

The problem with the one I'm using is that it does not detect whether or not a shell is under the shot & powder drop tubes. If a guy forgets to do the proper "setup," shot & powder dump all over. One solution is to leave shells in the stages, but that seems an unnecessary exposure to more spillage or contamination.

Is this an older model without that capability, or is there a malfunction? Any ideas?

Do you have the owner's manual? My Grabber is 16 years old - won't drop powder if a shell is not in place, but if your charge bar is to the right when you pull the handle it will drop shot, case or no. If you start a shell in position 1 and the charge bar is locked to the left as it should be, you should be able to run it right through without an issue. Don't be afraid to call MEC either, they will walk you right through it.

Malfunction. There is a spring on the bar lock catch on Autocycle Mechanism ( spring is refno 11 ) that was tooooo weak on early models. Replace it with the current spring and that ought to fix the problem. Look at the Owner Manual ( MEC 76 Series Grabber ) above and then look at the manual for the 9000 series ( spring is refno 29 ) and the adjustments on page 28 of the 9000 manual or page 14 of the Grabber manual for the Auto Cycle adjustments.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. It'll get us started on a good fix. We do have a manual from the website. Looks like a spring is in our future.

    Shoot straight!
