Anybody know anything about a Perazzi MX-8 model that is branded Mattarelli, and not Perazzi?

A guy I shoot with tells me he has been told the gun was made specifically for Ennio Mattarelli, and the receiver indeed says Mattarelli on the side.

The barrel set appears not to be original, as it is branded Perazzi and has a 1980 (AF) proof stamp.

I did not look to see if/what the receiver was proof stamped. (Note, on further review, there is no proof stamp on the receiver.)

Very well could have been the one he and Perazzi designed. Mattarelli was the Olympic champion that Perazzi built it for. IIRC

Yeah, my friend said that the fellow he bought it from had been the South African Olympic doubles champion and was personal friends with Mattarelli, and he bought it directly from Mattarelli himself.

It says on the receiver, "Made for Mattarelli". It's a Perazzi. -V

    Voolfie,

    Understood.

I was just wondering if anybody knew anything more about these.

Like, were they made for him to use, or for him to sell?

    When were they made?

    That sort of thing.

Originally, they were made for his use. The fact that he sold them may account for why there aren't more of them. But that's a guess. Mattarelli's affiliation with Perazzi was quite early and my guess is that these guns would all have been made prior to 1980. -V

I saw him at the 1974 Grand in Vandallia so that can give you a date line of his shooting
