    Dear friends,

How would I know if my gun barrel takes Magnum shells or not?

The barrel will say for 3 inch shells right on it if it can handle 3 inch shells. Many Target guns for Trap or Skeet are limited to 2 3/4 inch shells.

Does it mention the material of the barrel when it takes magnum 3" shells?
On the barrell I have: chambered 3" chrome-moly steel, does that mean thats it magnum? there's no magnum written anywhere!

No 3" magnum stamped on the barrel, no 3 inch. If you don't comply, please make me your beneficiary.

If it says 3" on the barrel you're fine.

If you enjoy recoil just shoot those 3" magnum shells in that 3" chambered gun to your hearts content!!

For ducks I currently use Kent Fasteel #3 with 1 1/8 oz shot in 3 inch and a speed of 1550 ft/sec but I have killed a lot of ducks with 2 3/4 inch 1 1/16 oz loads with Kent Fasteel at 1550 ft/sec.

Hey Mike do you use Kents for your goose loads? I use the #1 faststeel for everything but I might go to triple B's, I don't think Kent make "T" shot. Any thoughts. Jerry

Magnum means a larger amount of shot, usually.

As long as the barrel is stamped 3" you're fine.

Jerry, I normally use 1 1/4 oz Kent Fasteel 1450 ft/sec size BB for geese. This season I dropped a big honker stone dead with my duck load of 1 1/8 oz #3. I got lucky with a neck shot as it was bucking a strong wind and came right over me. I wanna ski at Big Mountain so I'm prayin for more snow.
