These ratings and the companies that provide them are now meaningless. If what this country has already done to it's monetary system doesn't qualify for a downgrade, the ratings simply have no meaning.

Is it really any surprise? These are the same ratings agencies that gave a basket full of subprime loans an AAA rating. Doesn't make any sense to me how bundling a whole bunch of crap gives you anything more than crap. And I have a finance degree.

BF thanks, the whole mess is a giant scam on the public. Why would a mining co. in Canada go down in value today because the USA is F'd up today. Gold is either Gold or it's fake! Right now the USA is fake and fraud!!

"Why would a mining co. in Canada go down in value today because the USA is F'd up today."

Because the USA is Canada's largest trading partner, because as the US dollar devalues Canadian products become more expensive for Americans to buy so they buy less from Canada, if the Canadian mining company can't sell it's products to the US the company isn't worth as much.

Didn't you pay attention in Econ 101?
