been shooting 1oz loads using red dot or 700x (which ever i can get my hands on)

would like to try using a 7/8oz load for practice and to try and save a little money

but im having a hard time on line finding a load and proper powder recipe for a 7/8 oz shell

anyone have a pet load for 7/8oz loads?

For 700-X, look at 24gm loads on Hodgdon's site Hodgdon

Alliant's site Alliant has a bunch of loads, and if you want to go a little slower than listed, you can back off the RD a ½gn, or even a full gn, no problem.

The 700-X will be a little cleaner than the RD at those low pressures.

I use Hodgdon's Clays and the DownRange XL-1 green wad in a Remington hull with a Winchester primer. I can push the load anywhere from 1225fps to 1350fps with these componets and not get into any trouble pressure wise. It crimps up very well to boot.

for AAHS hulls, my 7/8 load of choice is 17 to 17.5g of clays or red dot, W209 primer, green duster wad. In rem hulls, same powder weight, primer but the DR XXL pink wad. I do have to adjust my press between the two as the rem hulls need to be slightly longer with the XXL wad.

Lead Shot 12g 7/8 oz. Clays CCI 209 Rem. TGT 12 16.1grains 7,900 PSI 1200 fps. copied from hodgdon web site. My favorite light load

Crimps are fine with the remington TGT12 wads. I also like the Winchester gray wads when I can find them.

Downrange wads are un heard of locally in my area.................As is promo powder.

Killer load for anything. It's all I shoot these days.

Have to agree with OldGoat. 8.5 shot size is the way to go. Absolutely smokes targets at 16 yards. Good luck Chuck Hrosik

My 7/8 oz load: AA Hull, 17.5 gr Clays, Win 209 primer, WWA12SL wad. This makes a nice looking load coming out of my 366 loader, soft recoil with good speed and smokes targets.

    thanks everyone
i have claybuster WAA grey wads, sts & AA hulls with winchester 209 primers
i looked at the alliant and the imr web site and didnt find much for 7/8oz loads but ill look again
i do all my own load development for my bmg match rifle so i was going to go down 1 bushing size from my 1oz, 2 3/4 dram trap loads and start there but ill double check the websites and see what they say
    thanks again

Ken, Win wads are ballistically the same amount of 'sticky', so you can use WAA12L (grey wad) and WAA12SL (pink) loads interchangeably, but you might have to use a few pounds of wad pressure for the grey wad.

for 700-X, AA/STS hull, W209, Win wad use 14.5 to 18.5, depending on how fast you want to go. (bottom 4 lines of Hodgon's 24gm table)

for RD, they don't have data for 1100-150fps loads, but you can back off the 16-16½gn with no issue if you want to go slower than 1200fps.

If you're shooting an auto, you might have to stay at 1200fps for either powder to make sure it ejects.

Just in case, look for the 24 gram (shot weight) loads in the books - designed for International Bunker shooters but close enough to 7/8 oz. Mine is Rem. shells, #9 shot, Downrange XXL pink wad, 16.8 to 17.3 grains of Clays, Winchester primer preferred but Cheddites work. Has performed well enough to score several 100s at 16 yards, 1st shot of doubles (but no longer competing in trap), straights at skeet, and it covers roughly 2/3 to 3/4 of my sporting clays shots.....breakemall.....Bob Dodd

You can get plenty of loads in that range and even lighter in manuals from Ballistic Products and Precision Reloading. They've also got a selection of European wads designed for such loads, although the one I use, the B&P T2, won't go into new AA's because of the basewad.

It's the only wad I use in 12 gauge and I love it.

Went back into my records and found..19.5 Gr. ROYAL SCOT Powder (not D)..Fed 209 (not A) Winchester AA case-Win grey 7/8 oz wad..8 1/2's. Old stuff, bet you don't find much of it around now. As I remember, terrific 16 yd load & first shot doubles.

I dug under the bench and found some of that Royal Scot powder (didn't know I had any left) & loaded some of the above mentioned shells just for a try-out,
Softest load you could ever want and according to a friends crono, about 1270 MV. and made 16yd smokeballs from my Ljutic
