I think that I'm going to give up reloading. When I bought my last batch of lead at $39.00 per bag, it pushed my cost to $4.50 per box.

I love shooting a 7/8 ounce, 1,200 fps load for Singles and Skeet and it's tough to find this in Factory shells. As far as I can tell, Winchester AA, Federal Gold Medal and Remington STS don't make it. (The STS Managed Recoil is less than 1,000 fps.)

The only shells that I can find are ones made by Kamen, but they're 1,250 fps and I've heard that they have more recoil since they moved their production from Spain to the U.S. The other shell is the Italian Baschieri and Pellagri, they're around $65.00 per flat, delivered, but you have to buy 100 flats to get this price.

Any shells that I don't know about or haven't considered? Thanks! John

Fiocchi makes a 7/8 oz "trainer" load that will fill the bill. Don't expect to buy this for $4.50 a box.

... so your rationale for ending self-loading is what?! You want to pay more for loads which are heavier/faster than what you enjoy? Why would you do that?!

    Hilton55,

Are you any where near the Northeast? I have a few of the Focchi Trainers (7/8 oz @ 1200 fps) left in both 7 1/2's or 8's. Probably too costly to ship, though.

I shoot kemen and rio shells all the time, and like them.
Have friends that shoot the 7/8 @ 1200 and like them also, hope this helps.

J & S Wholesale in Jackson, CA carries Rio's. Their item number
    for 7/8oz is TLT24LT. It's listed as a 1200fps light trap load.
    Give them a call.

I gave reloading as well, sold everything. No regrets. I'm shooting estates 1oz 1145 fps, 1 1/8, and Rio HDCP 1250fps.

I liked reloading for about 10 years, but then it became a drag, now I just shoot, buying new costs a bit more, about $1 per box of shooting. When you look at the true cost of producing a good reload, good componets, reloaders, gas to buy the stuff, hulls, and time. I'm not sure it makes a lot of economic sense, HOWEVER, if you like rolling your own, and have the time to do it right then reloading is the way to go. For me that won't be until I'm retired.

I bought some Fiocchi bunker loads at Ben Avery last month, 24gm 1200fps #8 and 1330fps #7.5, both very pleasant to shoot.
