The Conservative party in Canada won the vote in Parliament just minutes ago - there is no more long gun registry in Canada.

Handguns will continue to require owner registration.

Congratulations to all the shooters and hunters in our communities across Canada for sticking to their guns and helping to end this program!

Happy news for our wonderful friends in the North Country...

Stay tuned for Paul Shaw's Delegate report coming in T & F. I am sure it will be another good one. He has worked hard to eliminate this registry, and he has got to be real happy tonight !

Now if they would just get rid of that permit to cross the border with our trap guns. I have been a member of the Northern Tier Trap League,(Northern NY),for 30+ years. The Kingston Italian-Canadian club had a team in our league. We used to enjoy going over for dinner and hitting the mall before we shot and went home. Great bunch of shooters there.

Should save the Canadian government an obscene anount of taxpayer money for a program that never did anything but cost them money.

What about all of the long guns that have already been registered, do they just toss the registrations in the shredder or do they stay as part of those peoples records ..? WPT ... (YAC) ...

I was thinking the same thing WPT was. Excellent question. And how did they get all of the criminals to register their long guns and handguns?

The Feds. want to shred all the info, but some provances ...like Quebec want to keep all the long gun info in tack..Hand guns in Canada will always have to be registered.

This program was to cost the Canadian taxpayers $1,000,000 and in fact has cost well over a BILLION dollars, and for what? the criminals have never registered their guns...surprize surprize...

The Senate still has to pass this, but considering the majority of Canadian Senators (appointed, not elected) are card-carrying Conservatives, this is not considered much of a threat.
