All of Robert Duvall's westerns (Broken Trail, Open Range, The Great Northfield, Minnesota Raid, etc) are classics.

[Gus refuses to have his leg amputated knowing he will die if he doesn't]

Woodrow Call: What do you want legs for anyway? You don't like to do nothing but sit on the porch and drink whiskey!

Gus McCrae: I like to kick a pig every once in a while. How would I do that?

    Best,
    Dennis

Lonesome Dove is, in my mind, one of, if not the best "guy" films ever made. The unspoken careing, and understanding, that Gus and Woodrow share for each other throughout their lives is something that goes to the very core of what most men feel for that special, one of a kind, friendship with another man that may only come once in a lifetime. Those of us that have ever felt it felt it again while watching this saga. No, it's not a "gay" thing, rather it's a strong bond that is built between two men that have no agendas and nothing to prove to each other. It's built on total trust, total reliability, and total committment to the friendship. Lonesome Dove has a strong psycological content that goes way beyond the film itself. One of the greatest movies of all time... Dan Thome (Trap2)

I definitely agree with Trap2........The only other movie that comes to mind that had as strong[maybe stronger]a message about life was..."Out of Africa"!

I agree with you guys that the series was the best ever but you all should read the book. You won't put it down and it's a great read. Better than the series. You will also find out the reasoning behind some of the things that Gus does. Where the series didn't tell you the book will. I guarantee it's the best story that you will have ever read. Dan
