I have a bunch of these shells and the 23694 wads as well as the Lyman 1st complete edition ca 1969.

It lists 1 1/8 oz with 17.5 to 18 gr of red dot and a 97* primer

It has 1 oz loads with 18.5 gr red dot and the 29222 wad and 97* (1220 fps) or Alcan max fire 220 (1260 fps)

Was the Alcan is a hot primer?

Reason I ask, I loaded 17.2 of red dot and 7/8 oz shot with a Fiocchi 616

It is doing 1273 over a Pact model 1 chrono but it gives enough of a punch compared to a similar load in rem gun clubs and CB1100 wads that I wonder what is going on.

I know about substitution issues but thought was if I had 1/4 oz less shot and 1/2 gr less powder I would not be in trouble land....unless the original books had mis prints.

I have 250 loaded and will set aside for winter shooting.
