The chamber will either have a small hood over the top of it or not like a standard gun.

Also referred to as a "mohawk" on top of the receiver. It's matches the rib on the barrel.

Click on the link above , it shows a Ljutic for sale. The pictures show the hood very well. Note the earlier guns did not have a hooded barrel.

7771 explained it well. The Hood doesn't have anything to do with the rib. It is the way the barrel and receiver mate together.

The hood is a stand alone feature on the top of the receiver period. It creates a continous line from the back of the receiver to the point where it meets the rib on the rear of the barrel.

    The pics illustrate that.

The link is to an older ljutic that was for sale here. The Barrels were not hooded. Still a very nice 2 barrel set.

I have wondered about this terminology myself. This is an interesting discussion because I see two completely different ideas on what a Hooded receiver is.

If I understand it correctly this is a hooded receiver:

What would the advantage be to having it hooded other than it being a newer gun and they never or seldom break down anyway ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

The story I heard years ago was that someone either confronted Al or made a comment about how you could slide a piece of paper between the mono block and receiver with the gun closed. Al then changed the design. Story or fact???

I'm sure Nadine could set the record straight.

The hooded re4ceiver was designed I was told to protect the shooter if the prime was pierced forceing the gas downward. Only here say on my part but makes sense. The older guns with out a hood always seem to sell cheaper that may be because they are older. We all know a Ljutic is a brick house.
